The Housing Rights Center is seeking a dynamic and experienced Human Resources (“HR”) professional who has a great depth and breadth of skills, including but not limited to: Benefits and Leave Administration, Compliance, Recruitment and Hiring, practices related to Human Resources and Anti-Discrimination Policies and Procedures. The HR professional will directly report to the Executive Director and work closely with other management staff to achieve our mission, vision, goals, and values.

Background:

The Housing Rights Center (HRC) is the nation's largest non-profit civil rights organization dedicated to securing and promoting Fair Housing. HRC was founded in 1968, the same year that Congress passed the Fair Housing Act (FHA). HRC’s mission is to actively support and promote fair housing through education and advocacy, to the end that all persons have the opportunity to secure the housing they desire and can afford, without discrimination based on their race, color, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, familial status, marital status, disability, ancestry, age, source of income, or other characteristics protected by law.

 

Summary of  Qualifications:

 

  • Management experience at non-profit and social justice orgs is preferred but not required,
  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing the interests of low-income, underserved, people of color, LGBTQ, persons with disabilities or other marginalized communities.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent project management skills, including the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. 
  • The flexibility, energy, and attention to detail needed to manage a complex workload and rapidly changing contexts and view projects at a macro level while balancing the most granular of details.
  • Lead and manage Human Resources systems, policies, and processes to facilitate responsive staff support and service;
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure the organization complies with applicable labor laws and regulations;
  • Proven ability to build strong and lasting relationships with a variety of partners including insurance providers.
  • Direct the administration of our benefits programs, and evaluate and develop recommendations for improvements to employer-sponsored benefit programs;
  • An ability to quickly triage competing interests, and to identify which need the direct attention of the Executive Director. The knowledge to determine which problems and challenges can be resolved independently and the ability to do so. 
  • A team player with exceptional communication skills who is highly diplomatic.

 

Summary of Duties:

  • Assist the Executive Director in policy and program management.
  • Work with management team to oversee office operations and ensure labor law compliance.
  • Assist in the development of training, programs and materials for new and existing staff.
  • Audit, propose, draft, and revise internal HR policies, procedures, and practices to ensure compliance, mitigate risk, and align with organizational objectives and values.
  • Be a strong and supportive HR resource for team leaders on HR related issues.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Support the development and implementation of a values-driven performance management system.
  • Track, analyze, report, and improve HR related data.

 

Requisite Skills and Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated interest in civil rights and social justice issues.
  • Management experience, preferably in a non-profit setting.
  • Excellent time management skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse backgrounds and incorporating their perspectives in the consideration of impacts and outcomes of a decision-making process.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of local, state, and federal employment laws including ADA, FMLA, FSLA, OSHA.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
