POSITION PROFILE:

Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Consultant Psychiatrist diagnoses and treats patients with mental, emotional and behavioral disorders in a day treatment setting for juvenile justice involved youth in San Diego County. The focus of this program is to provide intensive behavioral health services, case management and medication management for youth ages 12-17 who are Seriously Emotionally Disturbed (SED) and experiencing co-occurring substance use disorders in a multidisciplinary, trauma informed and culturally competent setting.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide diagnostic screening and psychiatric/ medication evaluation of youth ages 12-17
  • Prescribe psychotropic and other prescription and non-prescription medications
  • Order labs and review results with patient, family member, and staff when indicated
  • Prepare medical records of all services rendered including psychiatric and medical history, medication follow-up, progress notes, etc.
  • Required participation in weekly treatment team meetings, as well as case conferences, training of clinical staff, and other related activities, when indicated and if time allows.
  • Provide no more than 9 hours of services per week (schedule subject to change contingent upon budget and funding)
  • Position involves working in the Eastern region of San Diego County; Reachable outside of contracted hours for emergencies
  • 4 hours of cultural competency training per year


QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience and Certifications):

  • MD
  • California license in good standing
  • Current D.E.A number
  • Board eligible in Child and Adolescent or Adolescent psychiatry


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Trained in Cerner Electronic Health Record (previously known as ANASAZI)
  • Bilingual

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to accurately assess and intervene effectively in crisis situations
  • Ability to establish and maintain diagnostic and psychotropic relationships and to function as a member of an interdisciplinary team
  •  Ability to work with patients that are dually diagnosed in mental health and substance use disorders
  • Ability to prepare reports and records of services rendered
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality with regard to sensitive or proprietary information or materials
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills
  • Will not be debarred or excluded from participation in Federal programs by the General Services Administration, the Department of Health and Human Services of the Inspector General and any California Medi-Cal Programs
  • Must pass fingerprint background check (Live Scan)
  • Must have TB clearance
