The “Made in NY” PA Training Program is offered in partnership with the NYC Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment. Our mission is to provide unemployed and low-income New Yorkers the opportunity to work on New York sets and build careers in this dynamic field. The Training Coordinator will work at the BWI’s offices located at the Brooklyn Navy Yard’s Building 92.  

The Training Coordinator is a full-time, key member, of a small and dedicated team. They will maintain regular correspondence with trainees in support of job placement, retention, and mentorship. They will also have extensive contact with BWI’s employer partners, while developing new partnerships with potential employers. The Training Coordinator will report to the Program Director.  

Responsibilities: 

  • Train program participants on Production Phases, Departments, Production Assistant Types and their various responsibilities
  • Assist with job placement of trainees based off their immediate skills, direct interests, and overall performance during training
  • To maintain overall program success, provide on-the-job and post-job guidance and mentorship to ensure trainees are supported
  • Field calls daily on program cellphone; must be on-call for employer requests
  • Establish, cultivate, and maintain employer relationships
  • Keep track of each participant's individual work schedule and as well as maintain employer data in BWI's management information system
  • Identify potential retention opportunities and issues
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • At least three years of production experience as an Assistant Director, Supervisor, Coordinator or higher is required  
  • Thorough knowledge of all types of productions in NYC and how they operate  
  • Thorough knowledge of all types of Production Assistant Positions with the ability to be able to teach the basic responsibilities of each 
  • Prepared to grow BWI employer network  
  • Excellent teaching and/or group facilitation skills 
  • Excellent communication and computer skills,  
  • Organized, thorough, strong attention to detail  
  • Enthusiasm and respect for working with low-income adults, including but not limited too formerly incarcerated individuals 
  • Demonstrated ability to work well independently, as a member of a team and with a wide variety of stakeholders, including government agencies and foundations 
  • Strong commitment to the missions of BWI and partner organizations  
  • Flexibility to work some evenings and/or weekends 
  • Willingness to be on-call via cell phone as needed for unforeseen circumstances
