ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY: Gun Violence Prevention Action Committee (GVPAC) advocates for common sense, evidence-based gun violence prevention measures that will save lives in Illinois.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The BIO Bill campaign seeks an organizer to help pass the Block Illegal Ownership and Fix the FOID bill. 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Campaign and Coalition Building

Support the team to lead the coalition and community groups partnering to pass HB3245/SB568

Work with the BIO Bill advisory team to develop and implement the strategic campaign plan.

Participate in planning, strategy, and implementation of all work and campaigns.

Learn and utilize organizing tools and technology that supports the organizing work.

Activate existing coalition members. 

Priority district Organizing

Organize partners to take action and develop their leadership to speak to the media and policymakers.

Recruit and develop new leaders and activists through ongoing field and online outreach.

Perform other duties as needed to support the overall mission. 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years organizing and/or legislative campaign experience. 
  • Experience identifying and developing grassroots leadership in campaigns, and/or experience in running legislative campaigns. 
  • Coalition building and coordination skills 
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills 
  • Excellent verbal communication and writing skills. Ability to communicate effectively with staff and BIO Bill leaders.  
  • Demonstrated ability to lead direct actions and events 
  • Excellent team player, able to meet deadlines and work independently, innovative, creative, mature thinking and reasoning 
  • Ability to communicate verbally
  • Excellent self-management skills, with the ability to work independently as needed. 
  • Knowledge of basic word processing (Microsoft Word/ Google Docs), spreadsheet software (Excel), email and Facebook. 
  • Maintain a flexible working schedule, with the ability to work evenings, weekends or over holidays as needed. 
  • An energetic commitment to social justice and working within an anti-oppression framework
