POSITION SUMMARY 

The Anti-Recidivism Coalition (ARC) seeks an experienced, energetic, and dependable self-starter to join the Hope and Redemption Team’s Youth Re-entry and In-Reach Program, which enhances and develops rehabilitative programming for the California Department and Corrections and Rehabilitation’s (CDCR) Division of Juvenile Facilities (DJF). The ideal candidate will be someone with experience developing and facilitating self-help groups and will bring initiative and integrity to his or her work. The Life Coach will be responsible for supporting and implementing programming at O.H. Close Youth Correctional Facility and N.A. Chaderjian Youth Correctional Facility. The Life Coach will help young incarcerated individuals with re-entry planning, accessing resources and developing rehabilitation plans. They will also play a critical role in bringing hope and opportunities to young incarcerated individuals and prepare them for their continued relationship with ARC upon release. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

  • Assist with developing and implementing curriculums specifically targeted to young incarcerated individuals.  
  • Support and speak at existing self-help groups.  
  • Lead mentorship training workshops.  
  • Meet regularly with newly arrived youth offenders to support them in developing rehabilitative plans.  
  • Conduct quarterly youthful offender parole and reentry workshops.  
  • At the request of the institution, speak at staff trainings and participate in management meetings to assist, as needed, in improving institutional culture.  
  • Provide and maintain appropriate data and files of participants.  
  • Maintain a professional attitude, confidentiality, and respect of cultural differences  
  • Complete all other duties as assigned. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

Minimum qualifications: 

  • Associate degree preferred. 
  • Similar lived experience required. 
  • Experience working with young incarcerated individuals required. 
  • Driver’s License, personal vehicle, and car insurance required 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.  
  • Database management experience preferred.  
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.  
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.  
  • Ability to present information concisely and effectively, both verbally and in writing.  
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Bilingual beneficial.  
  • Willingness to travel and work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends, as needed. 

 

The Hope and Redemption Youth Life Coach should also have the following experience and attributes: 

  • Flexible and self-starter; ability to multitask while also being highly detail oriented. 
  • Experience implementing a youth development curriculum. 
  • The ability to build and maintain meaningful relationships with young incarcerated individuals.  
  • Experience with trauma informed care. 
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to ARC’s mission. 
  • Strong and effective problem-solving skills.
