Description

The Executive Director is the Chief Executive Officer of ICN. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors, and is responsible for the organization's consistent achievement of its mission and financial objectives. The E.D. does not hold a voting position on the Board.

This position receives a monthly stipend. This position involves 6-10 hours per week.

Overall responsibilities:

1. Ensure that the organization has a long-range strategy which achieves its mission, and toward which it makes consistent and timely progress.

2. Provide leadership in developing program, organizational, and financial plans with the Board of Directors and staff, and carry out plans

and policies authorized by the board.

3. Promote active and broad participation by volunteers in all areas of the organization's work.

4. Maintain official records and documents and ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations.

5. Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the field.

A. Communication

● Ensure that the board is kept fully informed on the condition of the organization and all important factors influencing it.

● Publicize the activities of ICN, its programs, and goals.

● Establish sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with individuals and organizations relevant to the mission of ICN.

● Represent ICN to the general public both online and in person.

● Present a positive role model of healing, recovery, strength, and resiliency from infidelity or similar emotional trauma

● Communicate an unbiased professional stance toward relationship recovery or non- recovery

● Be conversant with lay-related topics of infidelity: the value of peer support; personal recovery model; causes for infidelity; trauma recovery; grief and loss.

Examples of current tasks:

❖ Write committee reports for bi-monthly board meetings ❖ Inform board members of safety report issues ❖ Maintain ICN’s confidential database/mailing list of donors and others ❖ Maintain ongoing ads for staffing and board members, respond to and cultivate applicants in person, by phone, and/or email ❖ Collect and maintain contact testimonials ❖ Develop newsletter or supervise newsletter designer; text and/or email newsletter quarterly to confidential mailing list ❖ Outreach to local organizations through talks/presentations ❖ Ongoing personal outreach and connections to local E.D.s of small nonprofits, therapist partners, and non-local professionals in

the infidelity field ❖ Cultivate prospective donors through ongoing personal outreach

Examples of future tasks:

❖ Represent the public face of the organization online (social media, Ted talks, etc) ❖ Represent the public face of the organization in local or national media (newspaper, radio, etc) ❖ Improved ongoing personal outreach and connections to local E.D.s of small nonprofits, women’s-based organizations and

causes, and non-local professionals in the infidelity field

B. Staffing & Program

● Be responsible for the recruitment, employment, and release of all personnel, both paid staff and volunteers.

● See that an effective management team, with appropriate provision for succession, is in place.

● Encourage staff and volunteer development and education.

● Maintain a climate which attracts, keeps, and motivates a diverse staff of top quality people.

Examples of current tasks:

❖ Select, train, and assign mentors, supervise ongoing mentors, monitor mentor safety reports and contact situations, serve as

mentor ❖ Recruit prospective peer counselors: ongoing ads and personal outreach ❖ Work with training coordinator for training plan: vetting and selecting new peer counselors; organizing trainers, venue, manual

and materials, schedule, housing/accommodations, budget, summer reading, new counselor communication ❖ Co-facilitate training ❖ Maintain volunteer roster ❖ Maintain contact database including intake and assignment of contacts to counselors ❖ Oversee recordkeeping cloud-based file sharing system

Examples of future tasks:

❖ Recruit additional volunteers ❖ Supervise social media or supervise social media coordinator ❖ Maintain website or supervise website manager

C. Finance & Administration

● Develop and maintain sound financial practices.

● Assist the treasurer in preparing a budget that the organization operates within.

● Ensure that adequate funds are available to permit the organization to carry out its work.

● Jointly, with the president and secretary of the board of directors, conduct official correspondence of the organization, and jointly, with designated officers, execute legal documents.

● Seek funding sources including grants

● Develop and implement Strategic Plan with the Board

● Comply with all current legislation and taxes, maintain all 501c3 nonprofit status filings; employment withholding taxes; regulatory filings

Examples of current tasks:

❖ Lead and monitor annual cycle of fundraising activities per Fundraising Plan: SV Gives, Year-End Appeal, others as determined

by board and E.D. ❖ Supervise bookkeeper; provide revenue and expense info to bookkeeper ongoing basis ❖ Provide reports to Treasurer as requested ❖ Develop relationships with current donors through personal emails, invitations to events, etc. ❖ Maintain budget projections; maintain cash flow sheets; maintain Fundraising Plan with target revenues met or not met with

corrective steps ❖ Maintain bank account; write and sign vendor checks; deposit checks; transfer online (Paypal) funds to bank ❖ Manage donor database, send donor thank-you emails and/or letters; maintain donor stewardship and cultivation

Examples of future tasks:

❖ Work with Treasurer to recruit and/or supervise auditor for annual audit ❖ Create monthly budget projections and cash flow statements to monitor revenues/expenses
