The Alliance for Community Transit - Los Angeles (ACT-LA) is a broad coalition of over 40 organizations that fight for housing and transit justice in Los Angeles County and across the state of California.

The coalition’s Campaigns and Outreach Coordinator will join a small, high capacity team. We are looking for a Coordinator with strong leadership and project management abilities, excellent coalition management skills, a passion for justice and a track record of winning concrete victories with and for communities of color and low-income communities.

The Coordinator will work within a team to build momentum among our member organizations and community allies, align strategies and run coalition campaigns for transit justice, equitable land use planning, tenant protections, affordable housing and Equitable Transit-Oriented Communities (ETOC) in LA County. The ability to multitask, delegate, build and lead teams, and inspire others towards action are critical components to success.

This position reports to the Campaigns Director.

The following are core responsibilities of the position:

  • Coordinate work plan implementation for ACT-LA’s Transit Justice and Equitable Planning committees, including recruiting new organizations to get involved, facilitating/drafting meeting agendas and working with our members on a wide range of activities including advocacy, organizing, coalition building, event planning and community/voter engagement
  • Work closely with base building organizations to engage community leaders
  • Organize and lead trainings and event planning
  • Working with ACT-LA’s Advocacy Manager, plan candidate forums and other strategies to educate candidates and voters about our issues
  • Working with ACT-LA’s Communications Manager, produce and share content that makes the case for transformative housing and transit policy and mobilizes people to action
  • Working with ACT-LA’s Advocacy Manager, engage in research related to our core issues and staff and mobilize for meetings with decision-makers, relevant agencies and partners
  • Play an active role in other housing and transit coalitions to ensure our vision and goals for LA County are integrated and represented in other spaces
  • Plan and manage events such as Town Halls and leadership trainings that further our housing and transit justice goals
  • Represent ACT-LA on panels, at community meetings, and at relevant events
  • Respond to media and fundraising-related requests as needed

The ideal candidate has the following qualifications:

  • At least two years of community organizing and/or campaign experience
  • Experience working with grassroots community organizations
  • Familiarity with Los Angeles’s and California’s political landscape
  • Deep, demonstrated commitment to racial justice
  • Positive, solution-oriented attitude
  • Experience developing campaigns alongside community leaders
  • Experience successfully managing coalition work and building alignment among organizations
  • Success at managing multiple priority projects at the same time

Compensation

USD 55,000 - USD 68,000
Salary is dependent on years of relevant experience.
