Description

Steps to Success (STS), a comprehensive school success and college readiness program, is hiring an Assistant Director for its after-school academic support and enrichment program, After Hours University, at the Coolidge Corner School in Brookline.


We seek a strong, positive, energetic, and well-organized leader who will make an excellent role model for young people and support in the cultivation of a program that works to expose our students to a variety of high quality enrichment experiences.


AHU serves about 20 students in grades 4-6. The program runs 1.5 hours 3 days per week, from 3:40-5:10pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.  Assistant Directors are also paid for 1 additional hour of planning/administrative time per week.  *There may be  an option to expand and work more hours, with the same group of students, by working as part of the PSB HW center as well.  


The AHU Assistant Director is a part time position (5.5 hours/week, including planning time). Prospective candidates will need to be available for employment starting September 24, 2018 through June 14, 2019.


Program Objectives

As a result of having a wider breadth of experience in regards to enrichment activities…

  • Students will develop improved self efficacy
  • Students will develop skill sets beyond those learned during the school day.
  • Students will develop better teamwork skills

Duties

  1. Work as a team with Program Director/Lead Teacher and Steps to Success Director of Programs to plan and develop positive relationships with and among students, establish a clear sense of structure, and a fun, respectful learning atmosphere.
  2. Assist Program Director in teaching a variety of hands-on project based activities.
  3. Assist in routines and administrative duties as needed.

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years experience working with young people in a school, camp, after school, or residential setting
  • Demonstrated commitment to youth development. Ability to work with a diverse population and with students of varying levels of academic skill and engagement
  • Flexibility and creativity in relating to students in an after-school setting is essential. Experience with students in middle grade and above age range is important.


Additional Information


  • 5.5 hrs/week during the academic school year (which includes 1 hour of planning time).
  • Competitive, hourly, salary starting in the high-teens/hour.
  • Additional paid hours for STS events, meetings, and professional development trainings.
  • Supervised by STS Director of Programs
