Position Summary

The Nature Conservancy in Oregon works to create a world where people and nature thrive. The Climate Action Director will lead TNC’s local and national strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase climate resilience through adaptation efforts. They will work with local partners, agencies, tribal government’s and community-based organizations to establish a robust climate program and advance climate action in Oregon. They’ll demonstrate a commitment to equity and inclusion in their approach to this position. They are a leading advocate for sound science and smart climate strategies within the Conservancy and with external partners and policy makers. The CAD will work closely with the Natural Climate Solutions Scientist (currently in recruitment), Senior Policy Advisors and other key staff to amplify the impact of climate action.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree and 7 years’ experience in climate and energy practice, transportation, conservation or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience managing complex or multiple projects, including managing finances and coordinating the work of other professionals and partners.  
  • Experience in partnership development with non-profit partners, community groups and/or government agencies.                                       
  • Experience negotiating.
  • Experience working and communicating with a wide range of people and communities.

 

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrated experience integrating equity and inclusion practices into outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience with greenhouse gas reduction strategies (policies, practices, campaigns etc.)
  • Multi-lingual and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
  • 7-10 years’ experience in conservation practice or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in fundraising and/or grant writing.
  • Demonstrated experience influencing, developing and implementing conservation policy and plans.
  • Knowledge of current trends and practices in relevant discipline(s) and regions.
  • Communicating clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.
  • Politically savvy.
