Do you have experience working with kids in the city? Do you want to be immersed in the community that you serve in? Do you take initiative and do you desire to build teams? Are you called to live out your faith by loving and serving kids?


We are looking for a full time staff person to serve middle school students 40 hours a week. Staff will work at University of Chicago Woodlawn charter school in the Woodlawn neighborhood. Young Life experience is preferred.


Essential Duties:

Spiritual Formation

A. Spiritual Life and Formation

Every Young Life staff person is expected to seek out and maintain relationships and disciplines, in the context of a church community, that leads to a vibrant spiritual life.

  • Provide spaces and opportunity for kids to grow spiritually
  • Leads WyldLife team in spiritual development

B. Regional/Area Training

Training may be supervised by the Area Director designed to develop personal spiritual maturity and enhance personal character. Participate in aspects of area ministry that are deemed appropriate to learn principles and practices of area strategy and ministry health as assigned by the Area Director.

  • Attend and bring leaders to Chicagoland Summit  


Direct Ministry 

  • Lead a bi-monthly WyldLife club at UCW
  • Lead a monthly group contact work event
  • Active in all three levels of contact work
  • Lead a monthly Campaigner group with excellence
  • Lead a team to implement a summer and school-season camping strategy for UCW

Leadership Development

A. Recruit, Train and Develop

  • Work to recruit and train new leaders, five new leaders for WyldLife club, one of them being a black male
  • Participate in monthly leadership meetings, taking ownership when assigned

B. Work with Other Adults

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key adults in the ministry community (e.g., principals, pastors, parents, potential new committee members, etc.). 
  • Communicate with key adults
  • Attend committee and adult functions as assigned.

Resource Development

  • Track and submit monthly contributions
  • Reach for personal support goal of $1,500-$3,000

Support and Administration

  • Maintain accurate information on kids, leaders and donors for area records.
  • Use clear, prompt, appropriate and professional communication to all involved in ministry. 
  • Maintain professional integrity (i.e., office hours, dress, conduct and time management as agreed upon with supervisor)
  • Communicate monthly ministry updates and progress to Area Director


Qualifications Required for the Job:

  • Proven relational skills with both kids and adults
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Eagerness to grow and be challenged
  • BA/BS preferred, but not required
