Join the Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles County (NLSLA) and become part of an energetic team of advocates that provide a wide-range of legal services aimed to address issues that disproportionately impact the poor, those at-risk of homelessness and the homeless. These services include litigation, providing training and technical assistance, and community education.
NLSLA is seeking a Secretary to support its Homelessness Prevention Project. NLSLA has expanded to provide integrated services in partnership with a collaborative of community partners to serve the needs of those experiencing homelessness and those at-risk of homelessness. This position will support Staff Attorneys and paralegals serving the Antelope Valley, San Fernando Valley and San Gabriel Valley. The ideal candidate will perform a full range of secretarial and administrative duties, including answering phones, preparation of court forms, court pleadings, correspondence, memoranda, reports and contractual documents. The ideal candidate must possess strong organizational skills. Bilingual proficiency in Spanish, Armenian, or Chinese is preferred.
Position: Secretary Pacoima, CA
Availability: Availability is Immediate.
Performing a full range of secretarial duties for 4-6 attorneys and three paralegals, including preparation of correspondence, transcription, legal briefs, motions and discovery documents. Responsibilities also include court filing, maintaining calendar, filing and tickler systems including maintaining paperless systems. Must be familiar with court filings and rules. Litigation experience required. Will answer phones and may work directly with program clients. Schedules meetings and coordinates special projects and events. Shares workload with other program secretaries. Will assist with reports, basic graphics and other program needs.
Qualifications: A minimum of one year secretarial experience required. Must have excellent computer skills with a solid knowledge of Windows environments and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel). Good organizational and writing skills. Ability to work with minimal supervision and cooperatively; commitment to working with and on behalf of low-income persons. Bilingual skills (verbal and traditional written form) in Spanish, Armenian or Chinese is preferred. Applicant should be eligible to work in the United States.
Neighborhood Legal Services (NLSLA) is one of Los Angeles County's leading public interest law offices and has been the primary legal aid program serving the San Fernando Valley for 50 years and the San Gabriel/Pomona Valleys since 2001. The NLSLA staff of 100+, including 40 lawyers, provides legal assistance to lowincome individuals, families and groups in the areas of family law and domestic violence, housing, health care, education, public benefits, economic and job development, immigrant rights, consumer rights, and environmental justice. The NLSLA program offices are located in the cities of El Monte, Glendale and Pacoima.
