The Theater Offensive seeks an experienced arts administrator to coordinate and oversee True Colors: Out Youth Theater programming as the Education Coordinator.

About The Theater Offensive & True Colors

The Theater Offensive’s mission is to present liberating art by, for, and about queer and trans people of color that transcends artistic boundaries, celebrates cultural abundance, and dismantles oppression. 

True Colors: Out Youth Theater uses a proven community-based theater approach to train and inspire LGBTQ and allied youth leaders. True Colors Troupe engages youth of all experience levels in year-round theatre training to create, produce, and tour original shows to schools, community groups and social service agencies. The majority of participants are youth of color from Boston neighborhoods ages 14-22. True Colors young artists work with The Theater Offensive Staff and Creative Team to develop comprehensive True Colors programming that engages each participant deeply in the organization’s mission.

The Theater Offensive is looking to align True Color’s pedagogy for all progams with our new Queer Aesthetic values in collaboration with the TC Youth Advisory Board, which is made of current and former True Colors participants. In addition to the above, The Theater Offensive is looking to update and create new logic models and data collection methods in partnership with our Development Department. This position will serve as a leader in these two initiatives. 


Education Coordinator Position Description

The Education Coordinator, supervised by the Director of Programs, will provide administration to all youth programming, oversee youth work initiatives, and provide theatrical support for 80% of True Colors programing (Troupe, Creative Action Crew, and the True Colors Residency Program). This role will collaborate significantly with the Programs Coordinator and will be part of a highly collaborative and visionary team. Duties include, but are not limited to:

Administration

  • Outreach, hire, contract and supervise teaching artists, directors, guest artists, interns, dramaturges, and all contractors relating to True Colors
  • Oversee and track True Colors program budgets
  • Book and manage True Colors Troupe & Creative Action Crew touring schedule
  • Work with TTO’s Graphic Designer and Communications team to produce print and social media materials (including recruitment flyers, booking outreach packets, programs books, event collateral, and advertisement materials)
  • Administer evaluations and synthesize data from all participant young artists, teaching artists, guests artists, and contractors
  • Work with the Programs Coordinator to provide administrative support for the Youth Advisory Board
  • Coordinate all True Colors virtual and in person rehearsals, presentations, workshops, and calendars 
  • Facilitate virtual and in person True Colors programs meals (via Grubhub or other method)
  • Facilitate, manage, and administrate all True Colors young artist Interviews and Callback Process both virtually and/or in person
  • Communicate True Colors action items, reporting, needs, and wants to both the Programs and Communication Departments. 

 Production Oversight

  • Organize final showcase(s) of work at the end of each semester
  • Work with True Colors Troupe members and Director(s) to create an original piece of performance art
  • Work with True Colors Creative Action Crew members and Director(s) to create an original piece of performance art
  • Attend youth auditions and interviews, as scheduled.
  • Assist all contracted hires of True Colors with curriculum development/rehearsal plans.
  • Attend planning/production meetings; as scheduled
  • Attend monthly, Youth Advisory Board meetings as scheduled

Education Program Development

  • Work with the Director of Programs and Programs Coordinator to identify, recruit and/or enroll a diverse group of LGBTQ and allied students for all True Colors programming
  • Gather input on True Colors programming from Youth Advisory Board
  • Assist Director of Programs in designing and implementing new True Colors data & logic models
  • Assist Director of Programs in clarifying and implementing new pedagogy strategy to True Colors programming

Additional Duties

  • Provide resources, mentorship, case management, and youth worker support to youth participants
  • Teaching opportunities may be available, depending on professional teaching experience and interest
  • Attending professional development conferences, workshops, cohorts, and meetings as assigned and that are of interest to this role
  • Collaborating with other TTO staff , True Colors staff, and interns
  • Support grant writing and other fundraising efforts
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 4 years of education coordination or theater arts administration required
  • Relevant youth social work experience, preferred (i.e Researching and advocating for appropriate public assistance resources for young artists, providing crisis intervention as needed, coordinating treatment planning with programs team and providers, as well as maintaining ongoing contact with resources for the continual care of patients)
  • Previous work experience with LGBTQ community and Communities of Color required
  • Previous experience implementing artistic programs with youth and young adults ages 14 – 29
  • Proven track record of program planning, management and oversight, including guest artist hires, contracting and payments
  • Excellent planning, organization, and time management skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Self-starter who is comfortable in a close-knit team-oriented setting 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to travel and work frequent nights and weekends
  • Current driver’s license preferred
  • Familiarity with Boston area communities and schools, a plus
  • Previous experience in theater curriculum development and implementation, a plus
  • Youth Work Certification, a plus
  • Bi-lingual English-Spanish, a plus 
  • Flexibility to work independently, remotely and in-person
  • Flexible schedule (schedule will require some nights and weekends)
  • Comfort in learning and using digital tools 
  • Excellent time and project management skills
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills

Salary

$45,000 - $50,000
