Overview

Under the supervision of the Director of Health Informatics, the Health Informatics Analyst extracts, organizes, analyzes and develops presentations of data to support the work, mission, and strategy of Health Care for the Homeless. This role, in collaboration with other Health Informatics team members, is responsible for addressing quality assurance and data integrity issues as well as identifying and implementing quality improvement opportunities.

Key Role Responsibilities

• Collect, monitor, and analyze quantitative and qualitative data on individual, team, and organizational levels, in various areas with the goal of identifying and prioritizing performance improvement

• Share information through data visualizations that are open, transparent, and useful to clinical and administrative staff

• Interact with multidisciplinary teams and information systems to design, test, monitor, and maintain reports that support clinical, administrative, and operational activities

• Interpret data, analyzing results using statistical techniques to help facilitate decisions and actions

• Develop and implement data analyses, data collection systems and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality

• Design and implement tools to measure data, patient care effectiveness and processes

• Develop data-driven solutions to improve patient health

• Acquiring data from primary or secondary data sources and maintaining databases/data systems

• Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets

• Assist the Database Support Administrator, aide in report development and maintenance as well as working closely with other Informatics team members to gain knowledge and understanding of reporting and systems responsibilities to aid in support when needed

Key Agency Responsibilities

In addition to role responsibilities, each staff member of Health Care for the Homeless has the following responsibilities as a part of their employment:

• Models and reinforces the Health Care for the Homeless “core values” of dignity, authenticity, hope, justice, passion and balance

• Actively participates in performance improvement activities and actively participates in advocacy activities that support the mission of Health Care for the Homeless

• Performs other duties on an as-needed basis

• Protects our client’s personal health information by maintaining compliance with HIPAA and other relevant Health Care related IT security regulations

Knowledge, Experience, and Skills

Formal Education and Training

• Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Statistics, Data Analytics, or related field

• Alternatively, an equivalent combination of technical training and experience may be considered

Experience

• 2 years’ experience supporting electronic health record applications or case management software platform; experience with GE Centricity is preferred

• 2 years’ experience developing and designing presentations using statistical analysis tools

• 2 years’ experience working with SQL servers and relational database systems


Skills

• Excellent listening, problem solving, conflict management, critical thinking skills, and oral and written communication skills

• Have a strong working knowledge of HIPAA Privacy and Security requirements

• Experience with visualizing data in concise, meaningful and understandable ways, and familiar with best practices related to data visualization

• Proven working experience as a data analyst or business data analyst

• Technical expertise regarding data models, database design development, data mining and segmentation techniques

• Strong knowledge of and experience with reporting packages (Business Objects, etc.), databases (SQL, etc.), programming (XML, Javascript, ETL frameworks, etc.)

• Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing datasets (Excel, SPSS, SAS, etc.)

• Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy

• Adept at queries, report writing and presenting findings

• Interview and visually document reporting requirements and workflows with chronological and documentation requirements noted
