Position Summary


The Lycée Français de New York seeks an Associate Director, Alumni Communities, to help build a successful program for engaging alumni and past parents. Reporting to the Director of Development, the Associate Director will play a key role in redefining and relaunching the school’s efforts to engage its alumni, with an immediate focus on engaging alumni who are five to 20 years out of the school. The Associate Director will be responsible for the successful execution of a variety of alumni communications, engagement and cultivation activities throughout the year, as well as special young alumni initiatives, including the Senior Class Fund.


The alumni community of the Lycée is diverse and global. The community numbers approximately 14,000 around the world; all attendees and degreed alumni are counted as alumni of the Lycée Français de New York. In addition, parents of alumni and former faculty and staff are considered part of the greater alumni community.

Ability to work evenings and weekends as required by Development Department events, meetings and cultivation events.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Alumni Engagement & Partnerships (30%)

  • Collaborate with colleagues across the school to create and maintain pathways for alumni participation that advance the goals of the Lycée, including:
  • Identify and recruit high-potential alumni volunteers
  • Bring alumni back to campus for events throughout the school year involving current Lycée students
  • Gather mentoring and internship opportunities for students
  • Identify past alumni who may have an interest in supporting the Lycée
  • Identify alumni to highlight in Admissions materials and on the Lycée web site and print publications*
  • Develop partnerships with local businesses and institutions that could provide benefits to alumni;*
  • In time, partner with Development colleagues to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward alumni giving;
  • Oversee and balance the budget for Alumni Relations; within the annual program budget, manage existing and/or additional alumni programs, services and communications.

Alumni Events (30%)

  • Develop, manage and execute a rotating program of events aimed at specifically engaging and stewarding alumni including, but not limited to: Alumni Reunion, Alumni Networking and Affinity Group events, New York City Young Alumni Gatherings, Regional Gatherings, and Graduation;
  • Design and execute one annual event to bring alumni parents back to campus;
  • Accurately prepare and track RSVP lists, produce nametags, and oversee post-event follow up, including updates to Raiser’s Edge;
  • Prepare and monitor revenue and budget tracking for events, and ensure accurate expense processing.
  • Senior Class (15%)
  • Collaborate with the Development, Communications, Vie Scolaire, College Counseling, Athletics, Service Learning and academic departments to execute the Senior Year plan, including:
  • Fundraising for the Senior Class Fund
  • Collection of contact information for graduating seniors
  • Distribution of swag to Senior Class; communication to the alumni community

Communications & Social Media (15%)

  • Oversee strategy and content for the alumni Instagram feed and other social media platforms;
  • Write and send out the quarterly Alumni newsletter;
  • Explore and develop new communications tools for the alumni program;
  • Conduct annual survey of alumni to aid the Lycée in following up on the academic and professional success of graduates.

Administration (10%)

  • In collaboration with the Raiser’s Edge database manager, oversee all aspects of Alumni data entry, and ensure records are accurately and regularly updated, including adding constituents, updating biographical information, noting pertinent information collected, etc.;
  • Provide guidance to alumni volunteers to ensure efforts are in line with the school’s policies, procedures and the larger purpose of the Alumni Relations program;
  • Oversee all in-house event operation schedules for alumni events and work closely with internal and external partners to ensure smooth preparation and execution.

Qualifications and Skills

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required and a minimum of four years of professional experience in alumni relations, community-building, development or a related field.
  • Prior experience working in a fast-paced environment managing multiple demands and priorities.
  • A collaborative spirit and strong team ethic.
  • Candidates seeking a career switch will be considered.


Skills/Abilities

  • Must be detail-oriented and be able to handle multiple tasks.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills with proven ability to interact with a diverse range of individuals both in person and over the phone, via email and in written correspondence.
  • Demonstrated understanding of how to use social media to engage and build community for organizations.
  • Ability to problem-solve and make decisions independently; ability to collaborate with others as part of teams.
  • Excellent command of office technology tools including Microsoft Word, Excel and database software; Raiser's Edge experience preferred.
  • Discretion and tact in handling confidential information.
  • Highest ethical and professional behavior.
  • Commitment to the Lycée’s mission, vision and strategic direction.
  • French language skills highly desirable.
