The Opportunity.

The Assistant Education Manager helps execute our suite of farm-based education programs and events from May through August with an emphasis during the summer months. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands on experience in farm-based education, including curriculum development and independent program implementation. Beginning full time May 3rd through September 10th, this position will help to engage visitors in our mission and working farm. 

 

In This Role You Will:

  • Assist in developing effective place-based curriculum for all ages and topics related to The FARM Institute’s mission 
  • Assist the Education Manager in planning activities, program components, and logistics to ensure a high level of program satisfaction 
  • Lead the Counselor in Training program which includes but is not limited to conducting orientation, directing, and evaluating Counselors in Training  
  • Assist in ensuring that planned lessons are being used effectively by educators 
  • Assist in coordinating summer camp, residential programs, group visits, and other year-round programming 
  • Assist in scheduling, planning, and leading field trips and group visits 
  • Welcome and orient visitors and work towards a positive experience for everyone vising The FARM Institute 
  • Answer phone and email inquiries for programs and send surveys as program follow-up  
  • Manage and file camper medical files 
  • Assist with other operations on an as needed basis including set up and break down at events. 
  • Ensure safety of campers and staff by closely following all COVID-19 protocols 
  • Other duties as assigned with or without accommodation

Level of Language Proficiency

Qualifications:

  • Obtained or working towards Bachelor’s Degree within a focus area of Environmental Science, Early Childhood Education, Sustainable Agriculture, or similar 
  • Experience working with children in an educational or outdoor setting required 
  • Excellent organization and communication skills with the creativity and experience to execute programs   
  • Knowledge of sustainable agriculture, natural history, or food systems 
  • Ability to manage large groups in a positive and efficient manner  
  • Ability to work without direct supervision 
  • Staff management experience preferred  

 

Other : 

  • Valid driver’s license, as well as a satisfactory driving record as defined in The Trustees driving policy is required 
  • Satisfactory criminal background check (CORI and SORI) 
  • CPR and Basic First Aid certifications required by June 1st, 2021  
  • Able and willing to wear a mask and conform to all best COVID-19 best practices 
  • Flexibility to work nights and weekends is required; access to a car is necessary 

 

We are participating in a public RFP process to hopefully continue our work as the education partner at Katama Farm, which with the current timeline from the town, should be concluded by early May. In the meantime we are moving forward with our planning process, pending the outcome of the RFP. Although there is still much uncertainty and we cannot officially extend any job offers at this time, we are optimistic and encourage those interested to enter the application process so that we can be ready with job offers for qualified candidates if we are the recipients of the lease.*
