The Institute for Sustainable Communities (ISC) is a growing international climate organization building a team of passionate individuals working on solutions centered in equity. Founded in 1991, ISC’s mission is to unleash the power of communities and local leaders to respond to interconnected environmental, economic and social challenges to build a better future shaped and shared by all. For the past 30 years ISC has driven innovative and transformative solutions to climate change, from helping factories in Asia reduce greenhouse gas emissions to preparing for rising sea levels in Florida and building community resilience in U.S. cities, ISC’s programs create collaborative solutions that embed equity in the transition to a green, low-emission economy.
ISC is searching for a Communications Manager to lead strategic, integrated communications for U.S. Programs in alignment with ISC’s organizational priorities. The successful candidate will be an experienced communications professional capable of advancing communications strategies that convey the intersectional nature of racial equity, environmental, and climate change impacts. Recognizing that structural racism undermines efforts to build strong, climate resilient communities, this role demands creative thinking, close partnership with peers at all levels of the organization, and a comprehensive understanding of the ISC’s work, messaging, strategic priorities, and overall mission.
The Communications Manager will be responsible for collaborating with U.S. Program staff and partners, developing and executing communications plans that support a diverse program portfolio, increasing the visibility and reach of U.S. Program work, and developing a wide range of approaches to convey compelling equity-centered narratives about the U.S. Program work. The Communications Manager will bring a passion for ISC’s mission; strong strategic thinking; a high-level understanding of audience segmentation and messaging; creativity; excellent work ethic; outstanding writing, editing, social media, media relations expertise; project management skills; and the ability to thrive as part of a team while working independently.
This position joins our growing team at a time of pivotal transformation for the organization. As ISC celebrates its 30th anniversary, we welcomed a new president, Deeohn Ferris, and are refreshing our strategic plan with a renewed commitment to addressing the structural racism and income inequality in the U.S. and Asia that undermine efforts to build strong communities and regions as they respond to climate change. The ideal candidate will hold, and have demonstrated actions, illustrating the same commitment and values.
