Position Title:              Learn & PlayGroup™ (LPG) Facilitator

Reports To:                    LPG Program

FLSA Status:                  Part-Time:  20-25/hrs/wk, M-F, 9 am – 2 pm, follows ACPS Calendar

Opening/Closing:      Immediately/July 31, 2024

Compensation:            $20 - $28/hr, commensurate with experience, benefits


DESCRIPTION

Together, we can end child abuse in our community.

  • Our nationally accredited Children’s Advocacy Center program ensures that children affected by abuse receive prompt, respectful, compassionate and comprehensive care in one safe, child-friendly place.
  • Our Learn & PlayGroups™ are specialized, community-based, and for parents and children together.  Through our innovative, specially designed Curriculum, our experienced facilitators bolster the protective factors to make families strong and children safe, strengthening the parent/child bond through developmentally appropriate, play-based learning.
  • Utilizing the Stewards of Children® Training program, the Center offers practical child sexual abuse prevention training for the Alexandria community.

The Center is an In-Person Workplace operating out of the Del Pepper Community Resource Center at 4850 Mark Center Drive, Alexandria VA. Our Learn&PlayGroupsTM use developmentally appropriate, play-based learning experiences to promote the well-being of families by connecting adults, children and families to one another and to community/school resources. Learn&PlayGroupsTM are open to all families in the City of Alexandria with children ages 0-5. We serve a diverse group of families attending various sites throughout the City.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The role of the Playgroup Facilitator is vast. Facilitators connect people and ideas, connect families to community and school resources and connect people to friends.

Facilitators must:

  • Exhibit strong leadership skills and feel comfortable leading activities in front of a group.
  • Be organized and prepared.
  • Be able to create a warm and welcoming environment for culturally diverse families.
  • Be flexible and able to multitask.
  • Have knowledge of typical early childhood development.
  • Take initiative and be able to work independently.
  • Implement the Learn&PlayGroupTM Curriculum; adapt as needed.
  • Be a resource for parents by coaching, modeling and connecting with content experts as needed
  • Know how to access community resources available to parents and families.
  • Be enthusiastic, responsive and eager to learn.
  • Pass a criminal background check and a CPS Registry check.
  • Be able to lift 40 pounds.
  • Have basic computer/word processing skills.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in Early Childhood, Parenting Programs, Public Health or Social Work.
  • Experience working with infants and toddlers of families with young children.
  • Experience working with ethnically and economically diverse communities.
  • A valid driver’s license with clean driving record and access to a car with current registration
  • Bilingual, particularly Spanish, Amharic, Arabic, Farsi, Dari, Pashtu, Urdu.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Organize and lead weekly parent-child playgroups.
  • Organize supplies necessary for the execution of each playgroup; set up, clean and transport playgroup supplies between sites.
  • Implement the Learn&PlayGroupTM curriculum with fidelity, and adapt depending on the age of children attending group.
  • Maintain attendance, registration, evaluations and other forms.
  • Meet with and advise parents during “office hours” before and after playgroup sessions.
  • Assist families by providing referrals and access to community resources.
  • Consult with parents and offer information on developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community organizations.
  • Participate in professional development trainings and represent the agency at community events.
  • Assist with media outreach as related to playgroups, including social media.
  • Represent the agency to families, partners and funders.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Center for Alexandria’s Children staff.
  • Work with the Learn&PlayGroupTM Program Coordinator to order supplies within the program budget.
  • Support and participate in the Center’s fundraising efforts and community engagement events.
