National Volunteer Support Associate

Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights invites applications for a National Volunteer Support Associate (NVSA) position to be based in any of the Young Center’s eight offices (Chicago, Harlingen, Houston, San Antonio, New York, Phoenix, Los Angeles, or Washington D.C.). The NVSA will provide local and national administrative support for volunteer programming, including efforts to recruit, screen, train, and retain volunteer Child Advocates. This position will provide coverage for Volunteer Coordinator (VC) outages across the Child Advocate Program. The NVSA will support 4-5 offices, or as required by the Child Advocate Program’s needs. In collaboration with the National Volunteer Program Coordinator (NVPC), the NVSA will actively engage with the VCs across offices and centralize certain aspects of the VC role to enhance systems and efficiency nationwide.

ABOUT THE YOUNG CENTER

Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights is a national organization dedicated to protecting and advancing the rights and best interests – safety and well-being – of unaccompanied immigrant children in the United States. The immediate focus of the Young Center’s Child Advocate Program is to serve as Child Advocate for unaccompanied and separated immigrant children pursuant to the 2008 Trafficking Victims Protection and Reauthorization Act and the 2013 Violence Against Women Act. Our role is to identify and advocate for the best interests of immigrant children both while they are in federal custody and after they are released, applying federal and state law and long-recognized principles of the best interests of the child. Young Center also engages in policy work, advocating with legislators, federal agencies, and other stakeholders to promote consideration of the best interests of the child in all decisions concerning immigrant children and to create a dedicated juvenile immigrant justice system that treats children as children. Young Center has offices in Houston, San Antonio, Harlingen, Chicago, New York, Washington DC, Phoenix, and Los Angeles.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provides coverage and support, as needed, to 4-5 Young Center offices performing traditional Volunteer Coordinator tasks that include:
• Prepares and submits Child Advocate appointment forms for new cases
• Creates case files and enters data in the Child Advocate Program’s client database
• Assists with planning and logistics for volunteer Child Advocate trainings
• Supports efforts to recruit and screen prospective volunteer Child Advocates
• Inputs, updates, and maintains information in the volunteer management database
• Leads process to centralize certain aspects of the VC role to enhance systems and efficiency nationwide
• Serves as a national point of contact for volunteer records, maintains volunteer clearance records in a centralized data system, and ensures all active volunteers have completed required clearances
• Runs routine national data reports from the volunteer management database to highlight the volunteer’s experiences within the Child Advocate Program
• Learns about volunteer management processes across the eight Young Center locations, identifies opportunities to enhance volunteer programming in collaboration with the VC cohort, and maximizes the Child Advocate Program’s existing data systems to meet programmatic needs
• Analyzes data from volunteer satisfaction surveys and identifies potential resources to support national volunteer programming
• Supports national education and appreciation events for volunteers nationwide
• Attends bi-weekly VC cohort meetings and identifies ways to support the VC role
• Performs other duties as assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• An undergraduate college degree, or at least 2 years of post-high school experiences that may include a combination of employment, community organizing, internships, student leadership and/ or volunteer experience
• At least 1 year of experience in the Case Support Associate or Volunteer Coordinator role at the Young Center or a similar role in another organization
• Experience coordinating projects to successful completion
• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
• Highly collaborative and willing to work creatively as part of an interdisciplinary team
• Detail oriented with strong organization skills, particularly as it relates to documenting and tracking data and working independently on tasks and deliverables
• Is resourceful and takes a proactive approach to problem-solving
• Able to communicate with cultural humility, compassion, and empathy
• Able to collect, analyze, and present large amounts of data
• Proficient in Microsoft Office products, Zoom, Adobe Acrobat, and willingness to learn new technology and/or platforms
• Commitment to comprehensive culture of feedback, including seeking and providing positive and constructive feedback
• Desire to learn, both as an individual and as part of an organization, and apply diversity, equity, inclusion, and/or anti-racism principles
• Ability to effectively engage across different cultures, identities, and ethnicities
• Fluent in English and Spanish (oral and written)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Lived, volunteer, or professional experience with immigration, child welfare, or issues affecting migrant/refugees/unaccompanied children
• Experience or familiarity with Salesforce database

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Physical demands include regular attendance; keyboarding; and sitting for long periods (at least 5 hours a day). Ability to use computer, telephone, and copy machine. Ability to travel by plane, car, and other conveyances within U.S.

All employees must be fully vaccinated prior to the first day of employment. Young Center has adopted a hybrid approach that incorporates both in-person and remote work, based on tenure at the organization.
