LEARN Charter School Network, one of the nation’s premier elementary charter school programs, seeks an exceptional, high performing development professional. The successful candidate will be an engaging, creative development professional who is the consummate team player and has a demonstrated track record of success in raising significant funds across a spectrum of donors. We’re looking for a talented leader to help LEARN achieve groundbreaking results for its scholars over the next decade.
At LEARN, we measure the true impact of our program by the number of alumni that ultimately graduate from college. LEARN Alumni graduate college at twice the rate of Black students in Chicago Public Schools (a direct demographic comparison) and 10 points higher than all students across the nation regardless of socio-economic status or ethnicity. LEARN has effectively closed the academic achievement gap. We will celebrate our 20th anniversary in 2021 and have set a groundbreaking goal of 50% college graduation for LEARN scholars by 2034. We launched a $20M 20th Anniversary Campaign to underwrite the strategies that will help LEARN scholars achieve this ambitious goal.
Founded in 2001, LEARN Charter School Network is a network of college prep public elementary schools creating measurable, transformational change in the lives of students from underinvested neighborhoods. The mission of LEARN is to provide our scholars with the academic foundation and ambition to earn a college degree. We are fulfilling that mission every day by outperforming district schools in every key metric including more than double the number of college graduates compared with district, state and national averages.
We educate 4,000 PK-8th grade students across 10 campuses in Chicago and Lake County, IL. We serve a majority minority, low-income student population (98% and 86%, respectively). In addition, LEARN has developed a highly effective program to serve both military and civilian families at Naval Station, Great Lakes in Waukegan, IL. LEARN’s success in serving the unique needs of military families has led to its national expansion to Washington D.C. effective fall 2021.
The Senior Director of Development will lead LEARN’s multi-million dollar annual fundraising efforts in collaboration with a talented development staff, highly committed leadership team, and LEARN’s Board of Directors. They will also oversee LEARN’s $20M Anniversary Fund campaign. The Senior Director of Development reports to the Chief of Advancement and External Affairs, and serves as a key liaison to the board, development committee and external constituencies, including individuals, community groups, corporations and foundations invested in LEARN’s success.
The ideal candidate should enjoy working in a dynamic, results-oriented environment in which expectations are high for both the quality and speed of work.
Education, Training and/or Experience
1. Bachelor’s degree required
2. Minimum of five years of professional development experience, including two years of department management experience
3. Demonstrated success with individual giving and major gifts
4. Campaign experience is a plus
