Position Description: 

The Deputy Director oversees all fundraising for the organization, and works in close collaboration with the Executive Director to provide leadership and support for our staff, board, and members.  The Deputy Director works as part of a team to execute our strategic priorities, provide fiscal oversight, and promote vision-focused organizational growth.  Given the important role that volunteer committees play in Boston Workers Circle, the Deputy Director will report to committee chairs as well as to the Board and the Executive Director, as required by each area of responsibility.


Key Responsibilities:


FUNDRAISING & DEVELOPMENT

  • Work with Executive Director and Fundraising Committee to develop annual fundraising strategy 
  • Oversee all fundraising campaigns including: end of year appeal, membership drive, legacy giving and digital fundraising
  • Lead major donor (gifts of $1,000+) prospecting, stewardship and soliciting
  • Lead grants research, writing, reporting
  • Lead the planning and executing of annual fundraising event
  • Train staff and volunteer members to understand and prioritize fundraising needs
  • Support the maintenance of eTapestry database for all fundraising activity
  • Budget development and monitoring together with the Executive Director and Finance Committee


GOVERNANCE, STRATEGIC PLANNING AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

  • Nurture and support organizational culture and leadership development: collaborate on planning annual retreats for board,staff, and leadership team
  • Staff liaison to Board Infrastructure committees: Fundraising & Finance
  • Collaborate with Executive Director on overall Organizational Development including implementation of strategic priorities


EXTERNAL RELATIONS

  • Build and maintain our relationships within the Jewish social justice community, locally and nationally, ensuring BWC is a visible, powerful, and strategic partner in this work
  • Serve as a liaison with the Jewish community in Boston and elsewhere







PERSONNEL: STAFF AND INTERNS

  • Supervise Communications Manager; overseeing the design and implementation of annual Communications Plan, which includes: website, email, social media, flyers, fundraising mailings, etc.
  • Supervise Office Manager 
  • The Deputy Director will be supervised by the Executive Director
  • The Deputy Director and Executive Director will receive additional joint coaching and support in organizational development by an Executive coach


Essential Skills/Qualities:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years fundraising experience in the non-profit sector, with demonstrated success in major donor cultivation
  • Staff supervision experience
  • Knowledge of CRM databases, eTapestry and Constant Contact experience a plus
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Creative energy, self-starting; ability to manage multiple assignments in a highly collaborative grassroots setting
  • Ability to take leadership, work individually and as a member of a team; flexibility
  • Willingness to attend monthly evening meetings and work occasional weekend and/or evening hours for major BWC events (3-4 times/year)
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Boston Workers Circle, including:
  • Commitment to racial, economic, gender and disability justice and a frame of collective liberation 
  • Being a welcoming, equitable and inclusive community
  • Being a voice in the Jewish community for just peace in Israel/Palestine and explicitly against the Israeli occupation of Palestine
  • Working in solidarity with the Muslim community in standing against Islamophobia

Benefits

Generous benefits package includes 15 vacation days in first year + sick, personal and holidays & health benefits; Eligible for 401k after first year of employment. This is a full time (40 hrs) position, with a flexible work schedule. Position is remote during COVID, with daily Zoom check-ins, and then will be based out of our Brookline, MA office.
