The Senior Policy Managers will be responsible for identifying opportunities for federal, state, and local level policy change that increase access to the federal nutrition programs and address hunger and poverty. The Senior Policy Managers will help to lead the development and articulation of the organization’s anti-hunger/poverty policy priorities and provide key analysis and support needed to pursue those including: developing policy reports and resources; providing technical assistance and policy expertise to partner organizations; identifying policy trends; and tracking current legislation and policy changes to identify best practices.

These roles are preferably based in Washington, DC, but could be fully remote for the right candidate. Range for offers: $84,000-$91,900.



  • Shape existing and develop new policy priorities based on evidence, data, and equity principles.
  • Analyze and draft federal, state and/or local legislation, regulations, and other policies intended to expand participation in the federal nutrition and other anti-poverty programs.
  • Develop resources to support federal and state nutrition and anti-poverty legislation efforts and share best practices including sample legislative language, case studies, testimony, bill summaries, comment letters, briefs and impact reports.
  • Analyze and synthesize research and data used to support policy change in partnership with Research and Data team staff.
  • Provide technical assistance and policy expertise to No Kid Hungry campaigns and other public and private partners that are pursuing state or local legislation.
  • Participate in coalitions and meetings with advocates, lawmakers, government officials, and other stakeholders to pursue Share Our Strength’s federal and state policy priorities.
  • Work with the Advocacy team led by the Director of Government Relations and Advocacy to ensure that resources and technical assistance align with organizational policy goals and priorities.
  • Partner with colleagues to support Share Our Strength's work to be an inclusive organization that advances equity, and ensuring this value is embedded in the organization and throughout our work.



  • Bachelor’s degree and 5-8 years’ work experience with a focus on anti-poverty and/or anti-hunger/nutrition policy, research, or advocacy.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of state or federal level policy; experience working on social policy issues preferred.
  • Knowledge of nutrition programs or other anti-poverty programs, especially SNAP, preferred.
  • Ability to use and synthesize data and research for policy analysis and advocacy.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and relationship management skills, including the ability to identify and work through challenges, underscored by strong judgment and emotional intelligence.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently on multi-step, detail-oriented projects in a fluid environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including experience presenting to high-level audiences.
  • Demonstrated interest in anti-hunger and anti-poverty issues.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently.
