Job Title: Employment Specialist, Treatment Services

Direct Supervisor: Program Coordinator, Treatment Services

Overview of Position:

We are seeking a highly motivated Employment Specialist to join our NYS Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) licensed outpatient program. The ideal candidate will have a passion for helping others identify their unique employment and/or vocational or career goals through the efficient delivery of individual and group services.

The successful candidate will have a positive and proactive approach to problem-solving, demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, and attain an interest in networking, with an emphasis on job development and resource-identification.

Job Responsibilities:

·        Providing a range of employment and/or education services to participants who may have open court cases, or be on parole or probation.

·        Initiating, developing and maintaining positive collaborative relationships and job opportunities with NYC metro employers, across various industries.

·        Developing internships and other career and skill building opportunities.

·        Developing and maintaining an up to date resource directory of jobs, employer contacts, and internships for entry to professional level.

·        Working with participants to provide them with resume writing advice, pre-interview guidance, and career counseling, while obtaining a thorough understanding of each participant’s particular skills and interests.

·        Assisting with a quarterly employment-focused Newsletter and informational materials geared towards peaking participant’s interests in job readiness and career advancement.

·        Understanding barriers that participants may face while seeking employment and working together to overcome challenges through goal-setting and goal-getting.

·        Identifying multiple prospective jobs and initiating placements based on individuals’ career goals, skills, and abilities.

·        Facilitating job retention groups, and co-facilitating Cognitive Behavioral Intervention (CBI) groups.

·        Assisting the Program Coordinator in the co-facilitation of employment readiness groups, geared towards strengthening participants’ workplace skills.

·        Completing all required forms, case notes, data collection and recording activities necessary for effective determination of project accountability. Preparing regular monthly and special reports as required.

·        Participating in clinical staff meetings, case conferences, and supervisory meetings.

·        Participating in in-service and outside training.

·        Performing other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements of the Role:

A self-starter who enjoys the challenge of a demanding and varied workflow may thrive in this position. Commitment to and experience in working with adults with diverse cultural backgrounds who are involved, or at risk of involvement, with the criminal/juvenile justice system, HIV/AIDS, or substance abuse. Excellent communication, writing and computer skills, required. Computer literacy (word processing, e-mail, internet research, data entry) required. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. CASAC-T, CASAC a plus.

BA/BS in business studies, marketing, vocational rehabilitation, criminal justice, or related human service field preferred; workforce development experience, preferred; personal experience with recovery, HIV/AIDS and/or criminal justice issues, preferred.
