Associate Director - Operations and Team Management

Background: The Mount Sinai Parenting Center (MSPC) is a small non-profit located in the Department of Pediatrics in the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. The Center's mission is to transform the way pediatric healthcare is delivered by maximizing opportunities to promote strong parent-child relationships and early child development within everyday healthcare interactions. Through provider training, environmental transformation and pioneering research, our easily scalable programming leverages the healthcare space to reach families in the earliest years. We are seeking a smart, hard-working, diligent individual to join our team of interdisciplinary healthcare professionals.


Overview: The Associate Director – Operations and Team Management is a senior management position, created to partner with MSPC’s Executive Director and Director of Programs in providing mentorship and support to our small but growing team. The position will have day-to-day responsibility for supporting, growing and facilitating staff performance and expertise, helping to train and expand staff roles and responsibilities and building office and organization culture and community. The Associate Director will also be responsible for overseeing the success of programmatic goals and achievement, measuring of program effectiveness, and tracking of metrics and KPIs. The Associate Director should thrive in a collaborative start-up environment and have a commitment to foster productive team environments and nurture individual potential, while meeting the organizations high standards and productivity. This role involves: 


Responsibilities include:

  •  Effectively support MSPC in all people-related areas including interviewing, recruiting, hiring, onboarding, performance reviews, coaching, and improvement planning
  • Directly manage team of 8-10 program, research, and administrative staff members
  • Build and support office culture around inclusivity, team building and mission
  • Assist team members in obtaining their professional development goals by offering 1:1 coaching, conducting trainings or locating external opportunities for continued learning and growth
  • Lead weekly team meetings which include a mixture of team building activities, trainings, and project updates
  • Along with the Executive Director, build and run the center’s people strategy (growth, organizational design, retention, engagement)
  • Assist the Executive Director with setting and establishing center, program, and project goals and timelines
  • Oversee the reporting and achievement of program goals, metrics, and Key Performance Indicators
  • Assist program staff with development of policies, procedures, and systems to ensure clear and consistent execution of projects
  • Participate in director level meetings to provide updates on center’s people operations strategies and project progress

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 2+ years managing staff; hiring and building teams; handling human resource matters; coaching staff
  • 3+ years in program or project management; creating project plans, instituting process, and adhering to deadlines
  • Experience writing executive level communication
  • Experience working at a nonprofit or similar organization

Skills

  • Excellent organizational and project management skills; ability to balance a varied workload and prioritize tasks
  • Proficiency in problem solving, thinking flexibly and triaging issues on the ground
  • Ability to work independently, set clear goals and targets and manage work flows
  • Ability to manage a small team
  • Strong ability to work with colleagues with different skillsets and working styles, to influence others to adapt to different ways of working, and to be willing to adapt own style where needed
  • Be an approachable, active listener who inspires trust and confidence from leaders and individual contributors
