Overview

Farm Journal Foundation, a nonprofit advocacy organization focused on global food security and agricultural research, seeks an exceptional communications professional to join our small, but dynamic team. We are seeking candidates who are self-starters that thrive in a less structured and more informal office environment. This role will professionalize our communications and outreach and ideal candidates will be articulate, strong writers, and be able to turn work around quickly. This position will report to our DC office director and will be based in Washington, DC.


Responsibilities

  • Raise visibility and profile of Farm Journal Foundation and our main advocacy platforms (Farmers Feeding the World, HungerU, and Farm Journal Foundation Policy Dialogue) among US policymakers, donors, thought leaders, and advocacy community
  • Produce and deliver organization’s overall communications strategy
  • Create and manage editorial calendar
  • Improve, manage, and schedule all social media platforms and content (i.e. Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
  • Draft and edit copy for upcoming website renovation, together with senior management
  • Manage relationships with press and media and proactively use network to place editorials, media, quotes, etc. in national and local media publications
  • Manage junior communications and administrative staff


Qualifications

  • 3-5+ years of communications or PR experience
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Energetic and entrepreneurial work ethic
  • Strong judgment, problem-solving skills, flexibility, and team player attitude
  • Strong proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and outreach and project management tools (e.g. MailChimp, Asana, TweetDeck, etc.)
  • Experience in agriculture or international development fields preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in PR, communications, or related field; master’s degree a plus
  • Light domestic travel (10-15 percent)
