The Connecticut Association for Human Services,(CAHS), is seeking a Policy Research and Data Analyst to be part of a dynamic team!
As a member of the CAHS policy team, the Policy Research and Data Policy Analyst is responsible for supporting the CAHS policy agenda through such activities as identifying relevant data sources, developing and submitting policy research proposals, analyzing data, and contributing to special policy projects.
The Connecticut Association for Human Services is a nonprofit policy and program 501(c)(3) organization that was founded in 1910. Its mission is to end poverty and engage, equip and empower all families in Connecticut to build a secure future. CAHS works to reduce poverty, improve the outcomes of children living in low-income families, promote race equity, and build family economic success through outreach, education and policy work. CAHS houses CT KIDS COUNT, which tracks key indicators of child and family well-being throughout the state. Much of our CAHS’s advocacy and policy agenda is based on KIDS COUNT and other data.
A key strength of CAHS is our ability to collaborate and partner with others. We bring together diverse interests – concerned citizens, policymakers, human service providers, corporate and labor leaders, academics, state, municipal and other local and regional advocacy and service provider non-profit organizations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to)
As a member of the CAHS policy team, the Policy Research and Data Policy Analyst:
· Manages the Annie E. Casey CT KIDS COUNT Project, including production of data books, administration of the CT KIDS COUNT Data Center website, development of grants and reports
· Conducts policy-specific research and investigates trends in child and family well-being, using a two-generational lens, with attention to racial and wealth disparities and focusing on vulnerable populations (e.g., children with incarcerated parents), early care, K-12 and adult/remedial education
· Designs and executes special projects to support CAHS’s mission
· Supports the production of advocacy materials and delivers public testimony and policy/issue briefs
· Identifies, monitors and supports analysis of relevant legislation
· Extracts and analyzes data from publicly available databases (e.g., Census)
· Contributes to team activities as needed
· Graduate degree in education, social welfare, public policy, public health or a related field preferred, undergraduate degree in one of these fields required
· Excellent oral and written communication skills
· Detail-oriented, independent and passionate about social justice – with the ability to work on multiple projects under tight timelines
· Familiarity with analytical software programs (e.g., STATA, SPSS, IPUMS, Excel)
· Able to perform with a flexible work schedule; including some evenings during legislative sessions and prior to major events
· Committed to the well-being of working families and their children and to the elimination of racial and ethnic disparities in CT
· Prefer prior experience in child advocacy, education, early childhood, public health or a related field with knowledge of the structure of CT government, as well as knowledge of state and local issues relating to children and families.
