Full-Time OR Part-Time


The Development Writer will work closely with the Assistant Director of Donor Relations and other members of the Development team to create and edit a wide variety of communications materials in support of NBTS’s mission. S/he will work collaboratively to develop written materials with the goal of informing and appealing to current and potential donors.


The ideal candidate will have superior writing skills, administrative, organizational, and people skills, and the ability to balance multiple priorities. A background in or understanding of medical and scientific writing and/or grant writing is strongly preferred. The individual must have the ability to work independently on projects, from conception to completion, and work under pressure to handle a wide variety of activities and confidential matters with discretion.



Supervision Exercised: No supervisory duties required.  


Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all that may be found in positions of this class.)

● Provide support for NBTS’s fundraising efforts by researching, drafting, and preparing a variety of high-level written materials including grant proposals, gift announcements, and research updates. 

● Collaborate with Assistant Director of Donor Relations to ensure consistent, timely and appropriate messaging for donor recognition.

● Contribute to the development of narrative and financial reports for individual, corporate, and foundation donors, in partnership with colleagues across NBTS.

● Edit and translate medical and scientific research updates provided by NBTS partners into clear and compelling communications for donor/supporter audiences.

● Other duties as assigned.


Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree required.

2-4 years Development writing experience required.


Required Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities:

·  Strong writing, proofreading and editing skills, preferably in a non-profit or fundraising environment.

·  Demonstrated understanding of medical and scientific writing, with an ability to translate research findings to a donor/supporter audience.

·  Strong attention to detail, with a commitment to high quality work.

·  Strong experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).

·  Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and activities simultaneously.

·  Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information, diplomacy, tact, and professionalism in actions and appearance.

·  Team player and quick learner who focuses on high productivity and results.

·  Professional, friendly, and enthusiastic personality that thrives in a fast-paced fundraising environment.
