TITLE: Manager, Inventory Operations

DEPARTMENT: Kitchen, Operations

REPORTS TO: Senior Director, Kitchen Operations

LOCATION: 730 Polk Street, San Francisco

STATUS: Full-Time, Exempt 

CLASSIFICATION: First/Mid-level officials and managers

SUPERVISES: Inventory Operations Coordinators, Kitchen Operations Coordinators 


POSITION SUMMARY:

The Manager, Inventory Operations supervises and coordinates functions related to the receiving, tracking, storing and movement of all food products produced in our commercial kitchen. This customer-service oriented leader is an essential part of our Operations team that supports the production of meals with love every day for seniors and vulnerable neighbors in the Bay Area. The Manager, Inventory Operations directly supervises staff and volunteers who receive, stock, count, pack and distribute nutritious meals for clients. This position is ideal for an ambitious, meticulously organized, experienced warehouse manager with excellent communication skills looking to manage the inventory aspects of large-scale meal production in a professional and mission-driven environment. To perform successfully, our employees must not only have the qualifications and abilities to perform each of the essential functions of this position, but also must continually strive to meet or surpass the Project Open Hand objectives and exacting standards.


QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

·        A commitment to Project Open Hand’s mission and operating principles

·        3+ years of supervisory experience in high volume, commercial or industrial warehouse setting

·        3+ years demonstrated ability to manage and lead a team dedicated to inventory control, tracking, policies and procedures

·        Proficient in MS Office Suite tools and ability to manage inventory software programs, Computrition preferred

·        Ability to maintain contract terms for, and communicate directly with, external catering partners

·        Desire to be a part of a cohesive team and demonstrated ability to train, answer questions and clarify processes while working alongside and overseeing tasks of staff and volunteers

·        Ability to take direction, give feedback, lead by example, teach others and take responsibility for actions 

·        Ability to speak, read and write in English to facilitate communications with volunteers, peers and leadership in a fast-paced food service environment

·        Ability to maintain pallet jack and forklift certification

·        Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards as per HACCP

·        Ability to maintain CA food handling manager certification

·        Must be flexible to work early mornings, afternoons, weekends or holidays to meet demands

 

QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:

·        Budget management experience

·        Customer service management

·        HACCP Certified

·        Experience working with volunteers in non-profit setting   

·        Experience with high volume meal production


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·        Manages staff responsible for internal and external orders, receiving and inventory tracking

·        Develops, maintains and oversees daily policies and procedures for inventory, quality control and internal and external orders for all food programs

·        Works with Operations leadership to develop receiving cycle to adhere to food standards within budget guidelines

·        Collaborates with Operations leadership to hire, manage, train and direct operations staff in day to day functions

·        Develops tools for successful production and planning of daily prep assigned to staff and volunteers

·        Develops and manages processes for tracking all product and inventory in software management systems

·        Helps monitor all areas of food production for safety and sanitation concerns  

·        Takes action to correct unsafe/ unclean areas immediately, reports any observed problems to Operations leadership

·         Manages teams responsible for meal inventory movement and storage to ensure FIFO and food quality standards

·        Develops and executes on daily/weekly production lists

·        Collaborates with Operations and other organizational leadership to further the priorities and goals of Project Open Hand when related to finished goods production, inventory quality standards, and product storage or movement

·        Facilitates a harmonious and positive work experience while interacting with and overseeing staff and volunteers to complete the goals of the department

·        Develops, implements and trains volunteers and staff on pack out procedures

·        Represents Operations through active participation in the POH Management Team

·        Attends Operations and staff meetings

·        Other tasks as assigned

Physical demands: While performing duties of job, incumbent is occasionally required to stand for long periods of time and move; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Employee must bend, stoop and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted on a regular basis. Employee must be able to move fully loaded carts from floor to floor for storage on a regular basis. Employee must be able to work in a freezer environment (with provided equipment and clothing) for long periods of time. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

Work environment: The noise level in the work environment will consistently vary from moderate to loud. The work environment will be ever changing with volunteers and staff members all sharing limited space and working together in the Kitchen. The work environment will consistently have wet floors, temperature extremes, moving objects and loud noises
