JOB OVERVIEW

The Staff Accountant is part of the Finance & Operations Department, which supports all activities of Cascade Bicycle Club. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. This position addresses tight deadlines and a broad range of accounting activities, including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end audit and 990 preparation, and support of budget and forecast activities. Success on the job means the financial side of Cascade Bicycle Club’s events, grants, and staff time allocations are seamless and result in a clean and easy audit process. We are seeking someone who can see the larger financial picture of the organization while also being able to track transactions on a daily basis. The Staff Accountant is a full-time exempt position, and reports to the Director of Finance & Operations (DFO).



CORE RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Maintain the general ledger in Blackbaud’s Financial Edge
  • Assist with cash management with weekly cash position updates to the ED, DFO, and Finance Committee
  • Provide oversight of Accounting Clerk (AC)’s work with AP, AR, bank reconciliations, and payroll processing
  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end reconciliations and close
  • Ensure timely reporting of all monthly financial information, working closely with department directors on rolling reforecasts
  • Work with DFO on annual budget preparation, year-end audits, 990s, and year-end close
  • Prepare and submit monthly and quarterly tax filings
  • Monitor and analyze accounting work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources, while maintaining a high level of accuracy
  • Respond to inquiries from the DFO and other directors regarding financial results
  • Manage accounting side of employee benefits, including health insurance, HSA, 401k and Aflac accounts
  • Manage accounting side of the ADP Workforce Now payroll system online
  • Maintain strong working relationships with our bank officers, and representatives of ADP, health benefits providers, Vanguard, and Blackbaud (Financial Edge)
  • At events, manage cashiers (staff and volunteers), manage POS Square accounts, and reconcile day-of-sales receipts
  • Cross train with DFO and AC to fill in as needed during team member outages
  • Provide ongoing training for the AC and other staff as needed



QUALIFICATIONS

  • An interest in and commitment to Cascade Bicycle Club’s mission and programs
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or 5+ years of equivalent work experience
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP in the nonprofit context
  • Solid experience with nonprofit fund accounting, with a clear understanding of accounting for restricted funds
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and handle a variety of different tasks with hard deadlines
  • Advanced Excel skills, including the ability to use pivot tables, vlookups, and macros
  • Strong teamwork, problem solving, and customer service skills, including maintaining effective and open communication with team members, supervisor, and other staff members
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with people of different circumstances in regards to ethnicity, race, gender, age, sexual orientation, religion, ability, and socio-economic status
  • Comfortable learning new online programs and software applications in a network environment
  • High level of professionalism and ethical standards



DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Familiarity with the differences between 501c3 and 501c4 organizations
  • Experience working with:
  • Google Drive and cloud computing
  • Financial Edge accounting system
  • ADP Workforce Now online portal, or similar payroll processors
  • Salesforce, Drupal, and Civi, or similar programs



STARTING SALARY RANGE

$50,000-60,000/annual. This is a full-time, exempt position.


Due to the large-scale nature of events and their importance to the fiscal well being of Cascade and WA Bikes, staff members are required to work several events a year, a mix of mandatory all-hands events and choice events. This position may also require some evening and weekend work.
