Summary

You will be the logistical coordinator, and community organizer for a cross-issue and cross-neighborhood coalition to educate and build consensus and political will for equitable housing, transportation, and sustainability solutions in Menlo Park and with allies in nearby communities.

Menlo Together

Menlo Together is a group of Menlo Park and Peninsula residents who envision a city that is integrated and diverse, multi-generational, and environmentally sustainable. We advocate for an accessible and inviting downtown Menlo Park with housing at all affordability levels, and with pedestrian and bike-friendly spaces, developed to be carbon free. 

We take a deep interest in the way local government shapes our communities and encourage our neighbors to do the same.  We formed Menlo Together to elevate conversations about the future of equitable housing, transportation, and sustainability in Menlo Park.

What You Bring

  • An uncanny ability to keep track of deadlines, people, places, and things.
  • A savviness to self-prioritize and navigate complex sets of tasks and demands.
  • An ease of switching between activities seamlessly while also managing up.
  • A knack and patience for communicating with a variety of people via phone, email, text and in-person.
  • Excellent meeting facilitation skills that support inclusive consensus based decision-making
  • The drive to investigate questions down to the most precise details.
  • Interest in local policy, and writing skills to communicate information about key local decisions to community members and draft talking points for community members to communicate to decision-makers
  • Astuteness with Microsoft Office and Google applications.
  • Facility with basic web publishing and mailing list tools
  • Ability to create compelling and attractive marketing materials for outreach and education activities
  • Familiarity with Menlo Park neighborhoods, especially the Belle Haven neighborhood (preferred)
  • Spanish language proficiency (strongly preferred)

What You Do

  • Coordinate educational events about the links between housing affordability, transportation, environmental sustainability, and equity — including (after COVID-19) obtaining venue, coordinating physical setup, A/V, and other logistics and Zoom logistics (during COVID-19).
  • Promote events and activities using email, social media, local calendars, flyers, and through partners
  • Draft and coordinate letters and/or petitions regarding policies and decisions
  • Coordinate 1:1 education with policymakers, community members
  • Draft blog posts regarding key local decisions and events 
  • Organize the coalition — including setup and participation in weekly calls, monthly meetings and distribution of notes and follow-up steps.
  • Maintain membership and leadership email lists; maintain public-facing website and internal Google drive
