Job Title: Finance Manager and Operational Controller

Department: Finance and Operations

Reports to: Chief Financial Officer and Vice President for Finance

Position Summary

The Finance Manager and Operational Controller serves as the finance liaison to the Supporting Organizations (SO) of the Vermont Community Foundation, provides oversight of the budget preparation, provides financial analysis, and serves as a thought partner. This position:

  • Implements the investment decisions
  • Reviews investment for compliance with the Foundation’s investment screens
  • Manages the cash movement associated with the investments in collaboration with the Foundation’s third-party investment consultant.

The Finance Manager and Operational Controller is responsible for:

  • Contract reviews to ensure compliance with Foundation policy
  • Ensuring compliance with lobbying requirements (federal and state)
  • Ensuring grant funding from the federal government is compliant with the federal uniform guidance
  • Review and analysis of fund activity and gift acceptance
  • Reviews the SO form 990 and supervises the accounting staff to ensure completion
  • Financial analysis as requested by the CEO or CFO or other members of senior management

We are looking for candidates who have a strong customer focus as well as a broad understanding of Vermont’s nonprofit needs. In addition to a degree in accounting, applicants should have at least 7 years of progressive experience in the accounting field, preferably in the nonprofit sector.
