QUEENS SUPERVISED RELEASE PROGRAM

YOUTH 16-19-YEARS OLD

This is a great opportunity for a dynamic, knowledgeable and experienced individual with a social service, psychology, clinical or legal background to help make an impact on the ever changing role of the court system and alternative initiatives aimed at reducing detention and crime rates in the City.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Reviewing with our adolescent participants, the conditions of release, program agreement, and consents for disclosure
  • Conducting the intake/assessment interview to identify the needs of 16-19 year old participants, including possible mental health and/or substance abuse problems, and making appropriate referrals
  • Verifying participant contact information, applicable activities and responsibilities to assign adolescent participants to a designated level of supervision
  • Maintaining face-to-face and telephone contact with participants, monitoring re-arrests, and preparing written progress reports for court
  • Facilitate therapeutic groups for adolescents released to the program using a cognitive-behavioral therapeutic approach.
  • Provide supportive counseling to clients and their families/support systems.
  • Work with the family unit to ensure that client’s needs are met through engagement and case management support.
  • Conduct field visits to provide support to clients in their communities (home, school, medical appointments, etc.)
  • Maintaining communication with defense attorneys, and referral agencies until transfer or completion of reporting responsibilities
  • Updating computerized case management files accordingly to produce periodic reports on participant compliance
  • Appearing and advocating in court regarding participants’ compliance as necessary



QUALIFICATIONS


  • MSW required with + 3 years of related experience
  • Mental Health Counseling, Creative Arts Therapy with at least 3 years of related experience, also considered. 
  • Knowledge of NYC Court Operations, preferred
  • LMSW, a plus


The successful candidate will possess a combination of the following knowledge, skills, and experiences:


  • Familiarity with the Alternative to Detention (ATD), Alternative to Incarceration (ATI) or other adolescent advocacy program models.
  • Knowledge of and experience using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with adolescents in individual and group settings.
  • Knowledge of best-practices when delivering services in the field.
  • Working knowledge of treatment programs (substance abuse, mental health, etc.) and other support services (GED, job training, YIP, etc.) for referrals
  • Ability to exercise sound and quick judgment
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Computer literate with the ability to quickly adapt to changing technology.
  • Bilingual skills strongly preferred
  • Must be willing to work evening and weekend hours
  • CASAC or CASCT encouraged to apply

 

SALARY: $55K
