The Youth Leadership Developer facilitates programs and works directly with LGBTQ and allied youth, ages 13-23, to develop the skills necessary to address the issues that impact their lives. A particular focus is placed on utilizing diverse approaches, including service learning, mentoring, performing arts and other forms of youth leadership development to facilitate youth-driven community change.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide programming support via service-learning and advocacy projects to enhance leadership skills, and educational and career outcomes, in collaboration with youth participants and partner agencies, including reports related to direct service work, service learning and performing arts programming for contract reporting.
- Provide staffing support to youth in performing arts programming, including Youth Pride Chorus and facilitation of the Youth Mentoring program
- Enroll youth in program services, groups, and training programs, and oversee individualized program plans.
- Provide individual clients with crisis-intervention, assessment and referral services, and educational and employment support.
- Work with staff, interns, and youth leaders on annual calendar of youth events and summer programming, including serving as staff advisor and mentor during Summer Leadership Institute and the culminating week-long residential Camp Program.
- Maintain familiarity with current policy issues impacting LGBTQ youth, and offer youth skills to address issues if they are identified as areas of concern.
- Maintain all client and programmatic files, including ongoing attendance records, staff logs, evaluation components, and progress reports for all direct service work, including all relevant data entry.
- Provide cross coverage for all other youth programming units tasks, duties and populations.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's Degree; Master's in Social Work, or related field, a plus
- Previous experience working with youth arts, mentoring, or camp programs a plus.
- Good leadership, administrative, organization, and written/verbal communication skills; Spanish bilingual a plus.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work with a wide range of personalities.
- Commitment to inclusive, multi-cultural programming; prior experience working within coalitions with diverse communities and an understanding of intersectional oppressions.
- Knowledge and understanding of the issues, needs and interests of LGBT youth, adults, families and community, including knowledge of the spectrum of gender identity and transgender issues.
- A strong commitment to social justice and the mission of The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center.
