Al-Shabaka, The Palestinian Policy Network, is an independent, non-partisan, and non-profit organization whose mission is to educate and foster public debate on Palestinian human rights and self-determination within the framework of international law.

One of the goals of Al-Shabaka is to strengthen Palestinian policy voices in the global discourse. Within this framework, we are seeking a policy fellow in the US, based in either NY or DC (with preference for DC). Policy fellows are, inter alia, responsible for the list of functions below. This list will be tailored to the fellow’s location and circumstances; expectations and deliverables will be established accordingly to enable fair performance assessment.

  • Producing two evidence-based policy briefs over the course of the year. These briefs would be widely disseminated to policy communities in different world capitals in both English and Arabic. The fellow would present the findings, conclusions, and recommendations to different forums, including policymakers, civil society representatives, universities, and the media.
  • Participating in and coordinating two or three roundtables. These would be organized in collaboration with Al-Shabaka partners as appropriate, and could involve the discussion of themes related to Al-Shabaka areas of focus or the launch of a policy paper. They would bring together academics, experts, and civil society representatives as well as other members of Al-Shabaka’s network and could be considered for publication by Al-Shabaka.
  • Serving as Al-Shabaka’s representative to different bodies, including government, the academic community, civil society, and the donor community, and attending conferences, seminars, and workshops.
  • Producing op-eds for mainstream and specialized media outlets and appearing on national and international media to discuss current affairs and policy development using the Al-Shabaka handle.

Fellows will be mid-career professionals and are in the first instance identified from among the members of Al-Shabaka: The Palestinian Policy Network. The successful candidate will have a command of English and very good knowledge of Arabic and will have written and published policy analysis in think tanks, academic institutions, and/or media outlets. They would be committed to the vision and goals of Al-Shabaka and a team player willing to invest time and effort in Al-Shabaka’s institutional growth. The position is for one year with the possibility of renewal, and could be either part-time or full-time depending on resource availability.
