CAI is seeking a highly motivated individual for the full-time position of Curriculum Development Specialist.The focus of this role will be on assisting with the development of training products -- storyboards for eLearning modules, live and animated video scripts, and trainer’s manuals/PowerPoint slides for online instructor-led (Zoom) trainings -- for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Expansion of Disease Intervention Training project. The Curriculum Development Specialist will be responsible for collaborating with the project team and content experts to assist with the development of training products  to support a standardized Disease Intervention Specialist (DIS) skill set in accordance with core competencies, knowledge, skills and abilities, proficiency with emerging interventions, and the facilitation of cross-jurisdictional outbreak response. This person will work with the Director of Curriculum and Materials for the project to ensure that all products meet CAI standards of excellence for training design that are in line with adult learning theory, cognitive learning principles, industry best practices around instructional design, and 508-compliance.  It is essential that the candidate possesses excellent writing and editing skills, has the ability to establish cooperative working relationships, and be able to analyze and research content materials. Attention to detail is a major requirement of this position. A knowledge of public health issues, particularly the role and responsibilities of DIS staff, would be an asset. This position can be based in CAI’s NYC, Atlanta, Denver, or Los Angeles office. 

MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work cooperatively with project staff, content developers, and the Director of Curriculum and Materials for the project to develop training curricula and PowerPoint slides for live virtual trainings, scripts for live and animated videos, and storyboards for 508-compliant eLearning modules (that will be programmed in Lectora by an external consultant)  
  • Ensure that all training products use adult learning principles, instructional design principles, cognitive learning theories, and CAI best practices 
  • Research content areas to ensure the most up-to-date information and relevant theoretical models 
  • Uphold and demonstrate core CAI corporate values 
  • Work cooperatively with other CAI staff on other projects as needed 
  • Other duties as necessary/assigned 

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS, QUALIFICATIONS, CREDENTIALS AND OTHER PREFERRED SKILLS: 

  • Content expertise in community engagement, racial disparities, epidemiology, STDs and HIV, and/or community health and emergency preparedness, 
  • Strong writing skills and attention to detail  
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment 
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, instructional design, technical writing, or a related field 
  • 1+ years of experience in curriculum development, educational communication, adult learning, instructional design, or similar program focusing on writing and/or adult learning 
  • Experience developing training products for health-related field (trainer’s manuals, PowerPoint slides, storyboards for eLearning modules, live and animate video scripts, etc.) 
  • Experience with developing live virtual trainings using the functions of Zoom (e.g. annotate, polling, etc.) 
  • Experience with developing storyboards that are 508-compliant to be produced in Lectora 
  • Experience with writing scripts for 508-compliant live and animated videos for educational purposes  
  • Knowledge of adult and cognitive learning theories 
  • Strong editing and research skills 
  • Strong Microsoft Word and PowerPoint skills 
  • Familiarity with public health issues, particularly HIV prevention

  • Project management and coordination 
  • Knowledge of training and professional development methodologies 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complexities and prioritize multiple tasks 
  • Ability to work productively in highly collaborative settings while also able to function independently 
  • Demonstrated ability to interact professionally with culturally diverse staff, clients, and consultants
