TITLE:  Development Generalist                

DEPARTMENT: Development

REPORTS TO: Vice President, Development & Community Affairs

LOCATION: 730 Polk Street, San Francisco

CLASSIFICATION: First/ Mid-Level Officials/ Managers

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Development Generalist works under direct supervision of the Vice President, Development and Community Affairs (VPDCA) and supports the Development Team Directors and Manager with tasks and activities in each of the department’s functional areas.  This includes the areas of corporate support and foundation grants, events, advancement, operations, marketing/communications and community affairs. Key responsibilities include working with the VP, Directors and Managers with clerical and logistical tasks, data entry and database management, grant and donor research and processes, event logistics and production, marketing and communications including audio-visual production. The Development Generalist will work to foster connection, communication and collaboration between various functional areas and teams of the fund development department and assist with fulfillment of development staff roles in staff absences. 


QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

·        3-5 years in the nonprofit sector with experience preferably in San Francisco Bay Area

·        2-3 years of experience in a fundraising/development department with exposure to various functions of fund development and project management

·        Proficient in Microsoft Office 365

·        Excellent written and oral communication skills

·        Proven project management and team supervisory experience

·        2-4 years experience with contract monitoring and management

·        2-4 years experience with budget management/reconciliation

·        2-4 years experience soliciting sponsorships and donations

·        Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends, especially during event production and execution

·        Ability to use and/or develop social media, audio-visual production and research skills

·        Ability to maintain strong interpersonal relationships, superior customer service and diplomacy skills, both internally and externally

·        Ability to work cross-functionally with a diverse range of internal and external partners, peers and volunteers

o  Strong organizational skills, highly resourceful and the ability to handle multiple projects, with high attention to detail

·        2-4 years experience with and proficiency in using computer applications such as Salesforce, BidPal, GiveSmart, Classy, email marketing and/or equivalent database/applications

·        Passion for and commitment to the mission of Project Open Hand

 

QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:

·        Bachelor’s degree business or nonprofit administration, social work or public health preferred

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·        Responsible for researching grant and donor opportunities using available resources including leads generated by staff, volunteers and Board members, along with any database services.

·        Develop and submit grant proposals, grant acknowledgements, and grant reports in conjunction with the Manager, Grants and update records and store/retrieve documentation.

Responsible for identifying and communicating with private foundation program managers or corporate offices of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in conjunction with the Manager, Grants to establish relationships based on common interests.

·        Assist marketing and communications in conjunction with the Manager, Marketing and Communications with oversight and implementation of the organization’s social media plan.

·        Assist in identification of potential PR opportunities in local or national publications that would amplify POH’s work in the medically tailored meal (MTM) and Food is Medicine field.

·        Assist in website content updates and assist in video production including camera work, photography, and editing.

·        Assist in organizing both internal and external fundraising events in conjunction with the Manager, Events.

·        In conjunction with the Director, Advancement, conduct and document donor research using public and proprietary information, create and update donor profiles based on latest contact information and giving trends, identify and discover new prospects for Project Open Hand, researching similar organizations and donor circles to continuing building potential pipelines.

·        Assist as needed with all aspects of gift processing including gift/data entry, thank you letters, coding online gifts, mailings, donor follow-up, Salesforce database hygiene and maintenance, in conjunction with the Director, Development Operations and the donor services team.

·        Assist in responding to donation emails and phone calls.

·        Assist with management of community affairs activities and department administration in conjunction with the VPDCA.
