Administrator, Human Development and Capability Association (20 hours p/w)

Managing Editor, Journal of Human Development and Capabilities (12 hours p/w)

The Human Development and Capability Association (HDCA) is seeking to fill two part-time vacancies. The vacancies could be filled by different people, or in case of an appropriate match, by the same person.

The Human Development and Capability Association (HDCA), of which economist Amartya Sen and philosopher Martha Nussbaum were the founding presidents, aims to promote high quality research in the interconnected areas of human development and capability analysis, including the quality of life, poverty, justice, gender, development and environment inter alia. It works in a broad range of disciplines - such as economics, philosophy, political theory, sociology, education, public health and development studies. While primarily an academic body, the Association brings together those involved in academic work with practitioners who are involved in, or interested in, the application of research from the fields of human development and capability analysis to the problems they face. HDCA publishes a journal, the Journal of Human Development and Capabilities (JHDC), and holds an annual conference in venues around the world. Further information is available on the Association’s website

The Association is now looking for one person or two separate persons, working as independent contractors, to serve as its Administrator (about 20 hours per week) and as Managing Editor of its journal (about 12 hours per week). The Association does not have a physical office so location is not a constraint—the work of the Administrator and Managing Editor is done remotely. The start date would be May 1 or as soon as possible thereafter. Specific Terms and Conditions would be negotiated with the successful candidate(s).

Applications with Vitae and cover letter stating (i) whether the application is for Administrator, Managing Editor, or both, (ii) qualifications for the job(s) applied for, (iii) possible start date and (iv) remuneration expectations, should be sent electronically to the Secretary of the Association, Graciela Tonon, Review of applications will begin on April 15 and will continue until selection is made.
