ABOUT IACT

The mission of Interfaith Action of Central Texas (iACT) is to cultivate peace and respect through interfaith dialogue, service and celebration. iACT’s mission is achieved primarily through four core programs: iACT’s Hands on Housing utilizes volunteers and skilled professionals to repair the homes of senior citizens and disabled individuals who are living in deep poverty. iACT’s The Red Bench is an ongoing dialogue program designed to address one of the most pressing needs of our time: improving interfaith understanding and civil discourse in our society. iACT’s Passport Program helps build a deeper understanding and appreciation for all of our neighbors in communities across Austin by organizing visits to a variety of faith communities. 

iACT’s Refugee Program teaches English as a Second Language and cultural skills to newly-arrived refugees. We pride ourselves on making refugee families feel welcome and help them establish roots in their new hometown: Austin. 

The Program Specialist is a Full-Time position supporting the Refugee Program Director in providing outreach to clients, administrative support as well as volunteer coordination for the department.

The Program Specialist requires a high level of diplomacy in confidential matters with clients, staff, and other resources. Must be able to work with a diverse clientele and possess excellent oral and written communication skills.  


ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Client outreach

• Intake, Registration and Testing 

• All file creation and management 

• Evaluating and checking eligibility documents

• Supporting client services

• Tracking and attendance 

• Data entry

• Reports to various funders

• Communication, outreach and meetings with partner agencies

• Volunteer training, coordination and placement

• Helping at iACT events and fundraisers

• Other tasks as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree or higher

• At least 2-years-experience working with refugees or asylum seekers or other vulnerable populations

• Experience implementing government grant requirements preferred.

• PC Skills with at least intermediate Microsoft Office Skills – specifically in Word & Excel

• Fluency in a language spoken by refugees (Dari/Farsi preferred). 


ADDITIONAL NOTES

The ideal applicant will be hardworking, flexible and possess strong communication, organization, and time-management skills. This position will require occasional evening and weekend work.
