Banneker Mission Statement

The Benjamin Banneker Charter Public School, a K1 through grade 6 Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) school serving Cambridge and surrounding communities, is founded on the belief that all students are able to develop academic mastery, regardless of race, socioeconomic status, culture, home language, gender, or sexual orientation. Overview of Position:

The Benjamin Banneker Charter Public School is a Title One, K1-6 public school with an integrated curriculum and a strong focus on science and technology. The staff works to establish an environment where all students have the opportunity to feel safe and cared for, and to thrive. Classroom teachers and coaches collaborate with each other to create and implement engaging standards-based lessons in math, English language arts, science and social studies. Each student’s learning needs and every teacher’s strengths are respected and considered in the implementation of the academic program. Academic rigor, best instructional practices, and high expectations for students combine to create a school whose performance is ever-improving.


Successful candidates will be teachers who are always interested in improving their craft, expanding their instructional repertoire, and reflecting upon their relationships with students, parents and colleagues.


Teachers at the Banneker are expected to work hard, but are given all of the human, educational, and material resources they need.


Qualifications:

·     Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university. Masters degree preferred.

·     Literacy collaborative training preferred.

·     Appropriate courses in curriculum development, instruction, assessment and classroom management.

·     Meet NCLB highly qualified teacher requirements.

·     Appropriate Massachusetts Licensure
