 Who We Are

We are the Uniters. We bring people together to solve problems.  We identify the most pressing issues in our community and we bring together the people we think can solve them. United Way funds agencies that, working together, can address the nuances of complex problems like homelessness or the academic achievement gap. We create programs and initiatives to fill unmet needs. We deploy volunteers and socially responsible companies as the engines of change and the feet on the street, delivering hope to people in need. We raise funding through generous donors who understand that social change can’t happen without it.

Launch Overview:

Funded by the Department of Housing and Community Development of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, United Way is leading Launch, a newly formed consortium of community-based partners, organized to create a coordinated system of providing outreach, connection, and referrals, for education, training, and job placement to youth living in state-subsidized housing who are under- or unemployed and not enrolled in education and training. The network includes nonprofit partners in addition to United Way, the lead partner, all working together to integrate coaching, referral, and case management services. Collectively throughout Greater Boston, Launch will enroll 320 young adults in coaching and services that increase employment readiness and/or lead to employment.

Key to the success of Launch is United Way’s youth voice strategy. United Way is hiring a Launch Ambassador to join the leadership of the project, participate in outreach activities, and support continuous improvement of the program to achieve better outcomes for Launch clients. The Remote Launch Ambassador will create and implement a self-directed research project about young adults' experience in Greater Boston in education, training, or the workforce. The research project will include interviewing peers about their experiences to better inform the Launch model's continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Generate questions relevant to Launch client experience and programmatic elements to engage peers in interviews, focus groups, and other forms of feedback
  • Develop an interview protocol with questions to ask peers. Ensure consent is given and coordinate with Launch Project Director to record gift card incentives
  • Notetaking and recording of interview content to be submitted to the Launch Project Director.
  • Create a reflective presentation of research experience and program recommendation through a medium of your choice such as PowerPoint, memo, or artistic expression.
  • Work closely with the Launch Project Director and the Launch direct service team, participating in the weekly team case conferencing calls and meeting bi-weekly with the Launch Project Director.

 Requirements:

  • Relevant experience or interest in youth advocacy, program coordination, research, or community organizing.
  • Interest and enthusiasm in creating support networks for young adults in Greater Boston.
  • Empathy, flexibility, and ability to contribute effectively as part of a professional team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, problem-solve, and generate new ideas.
  • Microsoft/Google Office skills
  • Commitment to excellence and to the mission of the United Way.
