Position Description: Latino Union seeks a Household Worker Organizer to continue facilitating a sustainable, impactful, worker-led household worker program that builds power, organization, and resources for low-income, immigrant and US born women workers in Chicago. This is a program specifically for household workers, such as caregivers for the elderly, house cleaners, and nannies.

 

Responsibilities Include:

·      Continue the work of the household worker program to build power, leadership, and organization in support of justice and dignified conditions

·      Lead the organizing, advocacy, and enforcement work for the IL Domestic Workers Bill of Rights

·      Conduct outreach and recruitment to household workers to grow participation and membership

·      Support and grow the household workers leadership team

·      Organize regular meetings and convenings to build organizing campaigns and initiatives

·      Support member leaders in developing our survivor lead gender based violence program, Promotoras del Bienestar to grow and build leadership development against gender violence in the migrant community

·      Support the household workers managing their living wage hiring hall in coordination with the Day Laborer Organizer

·      Support the workforce development trainings which serve as organizing tools

·      Represent Latino Union in meetings, conferences, and phone conferences with the National Domestic Workers Alliance and the IL Domestic Workers Coalition

·      Work with Latino Union staff, members, board, and volunteers to support broader campaigns, programming, and coalition work in the immigrant worker rights movement

 

Desired Qualifications:

·      Minimum of 3 years experience with worker/community organizing; household workers or low-income, immigrant women workers; or participatory, culturally relevant, community-led programming

·      Experience in basebuilding and mobilization

·      Excellent communication skills, oral and written

·      Demonstrated commitment to social/economic justice

·      Self motivated –proven ability to work independently

·      Ability to work well with diverse communities

·      Experience working as domestic worker desired

·      Bilingual in English and Spanish, with the ability to interpret and translate
