Business Manager (40 hours). Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this person is responsible for accurate and timely financial accounting, corporate compliance, business agreements, and information technology functions. The Business Manager must be highly organized, detail-oriented and efficient, with demonstrated commitment to continual quality improvement in practices and procedures. This position works with CEO, ensuring a high level of operational efficiency in all of the above areas.


Financial Management, Systems, & Reporting – $1.2M+ Annual Budget & $.175M Endowment

  • Annual Budget, monthly reconciliations, A/R, A/P, G/L, bank deposits, and journal entries; performance toward goals 
  • Annual Budget, by program cost center revenue and expense, and special project budget development, reporting, forecasting, and performance toward goals 
  • Annual Audit, 990 & 5500 Filings – organization and endowment affiliate
  • Corporate Compliance including institutional insurances and certifications; organizational contracts and agreements 
  • Grant budget and reporting including grant budget development, projections, and forecasting, and reporting by cost center/program, major grants, restricted/unrestricted, and budget to actuals
  • In-kind donation tracking systems and reporting
  • Develop and monitor systems to streamline administrative procedures and conserve resources
  • Remain current on nonprofit management and accounting issues, and industry best practices
  • Liaison to the Board Finance Committee, working directly with CEO and Board Finance Chair
  • Equipment, maintenance and capital expense
  • Payroll and benefits including health and dental insurance, 403 (b) and FSA Plans
  • Maintain accurate personnel files, licensing and all appropriate documentation for staff, including onboarding and separation
  • Maintain current personnel handbook

Information Technology Systems & Support

  • IT infrastructure and systems support for clinical, volunteer, donor & financial management
  • Secure new funding and expertise for growth in IT
  • Oversee IT support; serve as liaison with IT partners including Lifespan, Freedom Tech, Coastal Medical, Quality Institute, and others  
  • Coordinate maintenance, enhancements and support for Electronic Medical Records including eClinicalWorks, Lifelinks, Current Care, and other emerging EMR assets
  • Manage IT inventory and scheduled replacement 
  • Other duties as assigned



•        Minimum 5 years recent financial accounting/administration experience in a non-profit (QuickBooks preferred), with current knowledge of GAAP policies and procedures, and payroll and benefits management

•        Experience with accrual-based cost center accounting and benefits

•        Demonstrated understanding of accounting software and Microsoft Office

•        Progressively responsible experience in a fast-paced, dynamic office environment

•        Experienced project manager familiar with IT systems and support

•        Excellent time-management and communication skills; detail oriented, creative problem solver and team player with sense of humor, strong work ethic, and “can-do” attitude

•        Commitment to the Clinic’s volunteer model and to engaging volunteers in the Clinic’s work


Rhode Island Free Clinic ( ) is a nationally-recognized, award-winning free clinic that provides a comprehensive medical home for uninsured adults, ages 18 and older, who earn less than 200% of the Federal Poverty Level; and, serves as an educational site for health care trainees. Care is provided through a dynamic statewide network of volunteer medical professionals working with academic, medical, and community partners, leveraging robust health care and training resources with a vitality that is unmatched in Rhode Island and remarkable in the nation. In 2017 the Clinic mobilized over 700 volunteers and community partners to provide nearly 7,000 patient visits to underserved adults, and over 6,000 hours of training for supervised health care students. With an annual budget of $1.1 million, the Clinic leverages over $5 million in additional donated health services and medical supplies to provide vital care and training.

The Clinic is open weekdays Monday-Friday, every Tuesday & Thursday evening until 9, and many Monday and Wednesday evenings.
