Summary


The Brooklyn Navy Yard (the Yard) is a mission-driven industrial park that is a nationally acclaimed model of the viability and positive impact of modern, urban industrial development. Now home to over 400 businesses employing 7,000 people, the Yard is in the midst of its largest expansion in generations – an expansion that will increase employment to 17,000 New Yorkers.


The Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation (BNYDC) is the not-for-profit corporation that serves as the real estate developer and property manager of the Yard on behalf of its owner, The City of New York (the “City”). BNYDC constantly strives to provide an environment in which businesses and careers can take root and grow.


BNYDC’s mission is to fuel New York City’s economic vitality by creating and preserving quality jobs, growing the City’s modern industrial sector and its businesses, and connecting the local community with the economic opportunity and resources of the Yard.


Areas of Responsibility


The Project Manager will support BNYDC’s efforts to rehabilitate and redevelop the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The Project Manager will provide vital support for this mission by leading key development projects and supporting the work of the department more broadly.



  • Analyzing the financial, urban design, land use, economic development, and public policy impacts of potential development projects to understand their feasibility and attractiveness
  • Managing multiple complex development projects from both a leasing and development perspective for new industrial and commercial buildings from conception to implementation, including:


  1. Timeline and budget management
  2. Financial analysis
  3. RFP preparation and process management
  4. Legal document review and negotiation (e.g., leases, funding agreements, license agreements, etc.)
  5. Tenant management and coordination
  6. Coordination with city, state, and federal agencies
  7. Site plan coordination


  • Drafting presentations and memos to elected officials, community stakeholders, and BNYDC Board of Directors
  • Preparing and presenting recommendations to senior staff on policies, strategy, and key project issues



Required Skills and Abilities



  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of land use, economic development, leasing, and real estate development issues
  • Capacity to plan, coordinate, implement and finalize projects according to specifications and deadlines, all while keeping within established budgets and timelines
  • Ability to prioritize competing needs and opportunities and focus on larger picture issues while simultaneously understanding critical details
  • Strong written, verbal communication, and presentation skills



Qualifications



  • 1-3 years of work experience in real estate, economic development, urban policy, urban planning, or project management
  • Experience developing economic models, including pro forma cash flow analyses in Microsoft Excel, a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Graduate degree in business, public policy, urban planning, real estate or similar field a plus
