We have an exciting opportunity for a Program Assistant to support constructive engagement between scientific and religious communities through the Dialogue on Science, Ethics, and Religion (DoSER) program. The DoSER program builds on AAAS's long-standing commitment to relate scientific knowledge and technological development to the purposes and concerns of society at large, with a focus on constructive engagement with the broadly religious public.  

This position will support the work of the entire DoSER program and will have the opportunity to work with program members on a variety of projects that advance the science and religion dialogue.

What You’ll Do

  • Serve as point of contact for the Program - respond to routine email, phone and social media inquiries
  • Assist with management of the Program's websites – including organizing and migrating existing resources to DoSER’s new resource website; curating & publishing resources on multiple websites; and analyzing and presenting on website analytics
  • Assist with social media planning and scheduling
  • Assist with organizing and convening meetings and events hosted by the Program
  • Distribute program publications and other products
  • Assist with writing and editing content for the Program's quarterly newsletter
  • Contribute to projects from concept papers to implementation
  • Assist with evaluations and surveys of current and future DoSER projects

Minimum Qualifications

  • College-level training leading to an Associate's degree and 2-3 years’ work experience; OR a Bachelor's degree; degree and related experience should be grounded in the sciences (including social sciences such as anthropology or sociology) or the history and philosophy of science
  • Interest in inclusive science engagement, particularly with religious publics and institutions
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, adaptability to prioritize various importance levels of different tasks 
  • Familiarity with contemporary software packages, particularly Microsoft Office 
  • Proofreading / editing experience
  • Website development software skills and experience (WordPress preferred) 
  • Experience with online media and communication (including Twitter, personal or professional blogging; participation and/or moderation of online forums)
  • Familiarity with data organization and analysis (Excel, etc.) 
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop and/or other graphic design programs
