A. Company Background. StoryCorps, Inc. (“StoryCorps”) is a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to preserve and share humanity’s stories in order to build connections between people and create a more just and compassionate world. Since 2003, over 400,000 people have shared life stories with family and friends through StoryCorps. These stories are also archived with national institutions for future generations to access. StoryCorps is one of the largest oral history projects of its kind, and millions listen to our weekly broadcasts at STORYCORPS.ORG and on NPR’s Morning Edition. B. Purpose. This request for proposal (“RFP”) is to contract for legal services to be provided to StoryCorps.
C. Who May Respond. Attorneys currently licensed to practice law in New York, or law firms including such attorneys, may respond to this RFP.
D. Scope of Services. Proposers should be able to perform the following services, as requested by StoryCorps:
1. Review drafts of contracts, consultant agreements and other legal documents.
2. Advise on legal issues related to tax‐exempt organization status.
3. Advise on policies related to procurement and contracting process.
4. Advise on licensing, distribution and clearance matters.
I. PROPOSAL REQUIREMENTS. Proposals should include the following:
A. Organization and Areas of Practice. Describe your organization and process for delivering the services, including the following:
1. Describe your organization in terms of size, structure, areas of practice, and office location;
2. Methods and approaches to completing projects and legal consulting services; and
3. Proposed timelines for each project or request.
B. Legal Experience. Describe your experience related to the areas outlined in the scope of services in Section I. Though StoryCorps has a particular interest in the topic areas related to non-profit organizations, licensing and distribution agreements, and other consulting and service agreements related to general business operations, StoryCorps will consider proposals emphasizing expertise in subsets of these areas. If applicable, please provide a description of any experience advising non-profit or media organizations similar to StoryCorps.
C. Attorney Qualifications. Each proposal should contain a description of the qualifications, background and education of the attorneys to be assigned to provide StoryCorps services, including any resumes of attorneys likely to be assigned.
D. Price. The proposals should include pricing information regarding the hourly billing rates of each attorney providing services and charges for expenses, if any, such as legal research, calls and electronic communication.

I. PROPOSAL EVALUATION. StoryCorps’ Counsel and Chief Financial & Administrative Office will review proposals and make the final selection. StoryCorps’ Counsel may request a meeting with qualified attorneys or firms during the selection process. Proposals will be reviewed in accordance with the following criteria:
A. Qualifications and level of experience of the attorney(s) providing the services.
B. Experience with similar organizations and legal matters.
C. Description of approach to the scope of services.
D. Proposed timeline for each project.
E. Pricing and costs.
F. Interviews, if applicable.
II. PROPOSAL TIMELINE.
January 22, 2021
Deadline for electronic RFP submission.
Week of February 22, 2021
Final selection and notification.
III. NOT A CONTRACT. This RFP is an instrument for soliciting proposals and is not a contract for services. StoryCorps will pursue negotiations and sign a formal contract with the successful proposal. If, for any reason, StoryCorps fails to finalize a contract with an attorney or firm, StoryCorps may decide to commence the RFP process again.
