The Children’s Movement of Florida is a statewide, non-partisan early childhood advocacy organization, headquartered in Miami. We are seeking a full-time Outreach and Engagement Coordinator for the Northern Region to start immediately.

Candidates must be local to the Panhandle, Tallahassee/Big Bend region, Gainesville or Jacksonville. This role may include relationship-building and local support stretching from Escambia County to Duval County, and down into North Central Florida.

The Outreach and Engagement Coordinator will identify local opportunities to support statewide efforts for increased investment in children’s early years--whether through high-quality early education, greater health care access, or support for parents and caregivers. Ultimately, working with community and business leaders, this support will translate to improved kindergarten readiness rates and better outcomes for children in school and in life.

The successful applicant will be responsible for working with local leaders, elected officials, partner organizations, supporters, and civic leaders to increase early childhood awareness and build meaningful partnerships. We expect consistent and substantive progress toward clearly defined goals and objectives set by our statewide leadership.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implement The Movement’s initiatives, programs, campaigns and projects across the coverage area.
  • Engage with political and business leaders regarding specific initiatives, campaigns, and legislative priorities.
  • Track local news on early childhood issues and stay current on local and regional efforts to support kindergarten readiness.
  • Maintain awareness of the political climate and build relationships with staff of state senators and representatives local to the area.
  • Manage and support multiple Advisory Boards composed of influential community members/volunteers.
  • Contribute to increasing the organization’s web presence through Twitter engagement, blog submissions, and post-event write up.
  • Share in the team responsibilities for successful virtual events.
  • Support the recruitment and training of volunteers and interns.

QUALIFICATIONS & ATTRIBUTES

The candidate is expected to be a hardworking self-starter who can work independently with strong attention to detail and demonstrate grace under pressure. The ideal candidate will be adaptable, creative, and able to inspire people to action.

Skills and qualifications include:

  • 2 years of experience in the community engagement field. Bachelor’s degree in social science-related field preferred. Previous involvement with nonprofits or political campaigns a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to juggle multiple priorities, manage projects, and meet deadlines; strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and politically active environment.
  • Interest in and baseline knowledge of early childhood and racial equity issues. Knowledge and experience working with families of young children with diverse abilities and diverse cultural backgrounds preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with experience using social media as an engagement tool.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, as well as being a self-starter who can work independently.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with diverse stakeholders at all community levels: grassroots and grasstops.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Drive, Zoom, and other virtual platforms.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation and be able to transport materials to and from meetings and special events/programs.

The position requires in person attendance for meetings and events when appropriate. Must be able to facilitate some evening and weekend meetings, events and programs.
