Kafenia Peace Collective: Program manager (contractor)

$40/hr

15 hours/week

5  hours on-site in Palo Alto, Attending some gatherings

The Kafenia Peace Collective promotes peace, generates authentic engagement, and strives to eliminate prejudice and discrimination in community spaces where diverse cultures connect, contribute, and lead. We do this by regularly hosting gatherings where our community shares its diverse cultures, and we encourage civic engagement through leadership development and support for your specific visions.

Kafenia Program Manager 

Taking over from the founder the day to day management of Kafenia Peace Collective’s programming, including organizing our gatherings, events, and community building, helping community-lead gatherings, and social media.  Could become Associate Director over time and engaged in strategic planning and more.

Kafenia is looking to hire a leader to support strengthening our existing diverse cross-cultural community and widening our circle, by organizing our gatherings and outreach.  This person would manage the scheduling, logistics, and promotions for our gatherings and events.   Ideally, this person would also have a vision for helping strengthen and expand our community and support the development of creative gatherings and community engagement over time centered on the Peninsula. 

  1. Oversee regular gatherings for our community and the broader community (2+/month) 
  2. Help brand gatherings do event descriptions and promotions across channels.
  3. Promote our gatherings through personal outreach and social media based on our priorities
  4. Help our community members express their visions and lead gatherings
  5. Manage publication of our monthly newsletter
  6. Manage contact database 
  7. Update the website as needed

SKILLS: 

  • Well-organized and excellent follow-through. 
  • Strong community-building skills. 
  • Strong writing and editing skills. 
  • Social media/tech savvy - Facebook, IG, Eventbrite, Mailchimp, web hosting domains
  • Able to engage with a variety of cultures and backgrounds
  • Committed to our vision and to staying local   
  • Able to write compelling and inspiring invitations
  • BONUS:  website design, redesign skills (using a platform)

Experience: 

  • At least 1 year of organizing events and gatherings.  Social media management.  
  • Managed email lists, group communications
  • Experienced cultures beyond your own.
