We are hiring a Senior HR Manager to join us in advancing a culture of inclusion focusing on retention, recruitment, employee relations, and the continuous development and evolution of our equity and inclusion journey. The Senior HR Manager will position racial equity and inclusion central to the work at GLSEN, knowing that HR done through an equity and inclusion filter holds both institutional and cultural change.

The Senior HR Manager will report to the Controller with a dotted line to the Deputy Executive Director. This position is both a strategic and hands-on role that provides full-cycle human resources support to the GLSEN team. This role is critical in executing our people initiatives, providing great internal customer support and driving HR functional excellence and process improvement.

The Senior HR Manager is responsible for creating a positive and inclusive employment experience for all GLSEN employees and members of our chapter network which includes talent management, human resources operations, and community relationships. The position requires cross-functional collaboration, process improvement, data analysis and problem solving. This is a leadership position that also serves as a support function for all departments. 


RESPONSIBILITIES

Talent Management

  • Designs and implements systems to promote and facilitate employee development and growth. 
  • Facilitate documentation of job descriptions and career paths with department heads.
  • Design and facilitate employee performance review program and processes 
  • Work with functional leaders to ensure appropriate staffing plans according to organizational growth objectives and then, also to manage recruiting, onboarding and offboarding processes 
  • Serve as an employee ombudsman, arbitrate/mediate in work and personnel/personal disputes through formal and informal conversations. 
  • Resolve employee experience issues, including human resources investigations, risk management, and emergency response concerns.
  • Serve as a trusted and approachable resource for all employee challenges. Work with people managers to provide good mentorship and guidance to all employees.
  • Work with Chapter leadership to provide guidance on hiring and management best practices 

HR Operations

  • Work with the Racial Equity Task Force and organizational leadership to ensure that all organizational policies meet equity goals. 
  • Monitor compliance of employee experience functions with applicable laws and regulations including: COBRA, Worker’s Compensation, OSHA, EEO and FLSA.
  • Administer benefits program and compliance
  • Administer payroll and related processes
  • Lead the development and implementation of employee policies and procedures
  • Maintain employment records and ensure critical conversations and milestones are well documented and archived.
  • Design, conduct and analyze employee satisfaction surveys and implement strategies based on insights

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years of previous human resources experience. Experience in non-profits or education highly preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field preferred
  • PHR/SPHR Certification beneficial
  • Deep understanding of racial justice
  • Established time management skills and proven sound judgment
  • Experience building and improving internal business practices in a growth environment
  • Proven track record of employee development and satisfaction
  • Proven results when creating and deploying strategies to recruit and attract the best talent 
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, teamwork, negotiation and communication skills
  • Proven success in navigating employee relations challenges
  • A keen eye for thoughtful, comprehensive, equitable evaluation development


TOTAL COMPENSATION

  • Salary: $80,000 - $90,000 
  • Benefits: GLSEN offers competitive compensation and a generous benefits package, including: five weeks paid time off for new employees in addition to 10 paid holidays per year; 100% employer-paid medical and dental insurance for staff and optional benefits for family members (including domestic partners); life insurance; and a 401k plan with increasing employer contributions based on staff tenure.
