Position Summary and Overview

The Churchill School & Center, a K-12 school for students with language-based learning disabilities, is seeking an elementary school Science Teacher to complete a maternity leave replacement from December 2020-mid March 2021.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate commitment to Churchill’s mission and core values
  • Embrace and model Churchill’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion 
  • Plan science curriculum, lessons and assignments
  • Take attendance each period
  • Maintain class websites with course descriptions, pictures, etc.
  • Write student progress reports
  • Work collaboratively with team members
  • Support students by 
  • Scaffolding in-class assignments, tasks and projects
  • Developing critical thinking, problem solving skills and tools to become self advocates and productive learners
  • Utilizing multimodal methods of teaching
  • Assess student work and participation

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have...

  • BA or BS Degree (and MA or MS degree preferred) (Degrees in Elementary Education, Special Education or related field preferred)
  • Knowledge of and interest in general science
  • Classroom experience building positive and appropriate relationships with young students
  • Knowledge of, or willingness to continue higher levels of education to obtain knowledge of effective teaching strategies and methodologies for working with children with language-based learning disabilities
  • Familiarity with Smartboards, Google Drive, and technology in the classroom
  • Interest in professional career development in the field of special education
  • Patience, flexibility, good organization skills, and a sense of humor
