Next Generation Scholars (NGS) seeks a Director of Development & Outreach to join its staff at the office in San Rafael, CA.

POSITION

Reporting to the Executive Director (ED) and working closely with a Development Consultant, the Director of Development & Outreach will play a critical role in the organization’s continued growth through new individual, corporate, and foundation partners, and will lead the strengthening of existing funding streams. The Director of Development & Outreach must be able to meaningfully connect with our students, families, and external stakeholders. The Director will manage the following functions:


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Development

  • Support ED in creating, developing, and maintaining funding relationships
  • Help write and oversee the execution of all grant proposals and reports
  • Speak on behalf of the organization at events pertaining to development
  • Manage the creation and execution of all fundraisers, open houses, and events
  • Solicit event sponsorships for events
  • Lead and work directly with Board of Directors, other volunteers, and staff in creating and implementing a major gifts program
  • Oversee tracking of fundraising goals by maintaining all metrics for assessments of students and individual programs
  • Support Development Consultant to ensure new funding and maintenance of current funding partners
  • Oversee branded messaging and identity


Financial Management and Oversight

  • Manage all financial and business planning activities, including:
  • Drafting and analyzing annual development operating budget
  • Overseeing the development of monthly accounting reports
  • Assessing and determining program income guidelines
  • Ensuring relevant financial data is presented to the ED and Board of Directors
  • Work with paying clients to ensure prompt billing


Operations

  • Oversee risk management and manage legal documents
  • Manage business insurance and employer health insurance plan
  • Ensure all facilities are properly maintained


Administration

  • Create evaluation systems for all programs
  • Track student educational and social-emotional milestones for reporting purposes
  • Track data for grant applications and other development materials
  • Contribute to staff meetings and events on development matters


Outreach

  • Conduct outreach to external partners such as schools and community based organizations
  • Coordinate alumni engagement events
  • Speak on behalf of the organization at meetings, conferences, and fundraising events

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience raising funds on behalf of low-income, immigrant families and communities
  • A passion to work on behalf of Next Generation Scholars’ mission
  • Strong operational experience: ideally a management role in a nonprofit or school
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge and experience using development databases
  • Experience planning and managing events
  • Knowledge of local philanthropic communities
  • Minimum of a BA, Master’s degree in a related field preferred
  • Bilingual skills in English and Spanish preferred

Spanish preferred but not required.
