JOB SUMMARY/SCOPE OF WORK

Reporting to the Director of Development, the Grants Manager will inform and execute on a comprehensive development strategy for Outdoor Outreach’s grants program, including grants from foundation, corporate, government, and civic sources. The Grants Writer will be responsible for a portfolio of grant proposals, reports and prospects, as well as copywriting and editing to support annual and long-range fundraising efforts.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Grant Writing (65%)

  • Generate proposals to foundation, corporate, government, civic and other grant-making organizations, persuasively communicating Outdoor Outreach’s mission and programs
  • Develop, assemble and submit grant requests, including proposals, budgets and necessary supporting documentation
  • Maintain a grants calendar to ensure the timely submission of LOIs, proposals and reports


Grants Stewardship (20%)

  • Write tax letters acknowledging the receipt of all grant funding
  • Establish and maintain personal contacts and relationships with program officers, including providing periodic impact updates as necessary/appropriate
  • Prepare grant reports, including working with other Outdoor Outreach team members to coordinate the preparation of financial reports, proof of funder acknowledgement, or other required documentation


Copywriting (5%)

  • Write copy for donor/constituent communications including, but not limited to, appeal letters for annual campaigns, speaking programs/presentations, event collateral, and Outdoor Outreach’s Annual Report
  • Provide copy editing for marketing pieces including blog posts, newsletters and online content
  • Work closely with the Director of Development to ensure Outdoor Outreach’s communications are meaningful and consistent, in keeping with organization’s established identity foundation and standards


Grants Administration (5%)

  • Maintain accurate revenue projections for grant funding sources
  • Manage grant deliverables tracking and allocation plans, working closely with the Programs and Finance departments to ensure grant funds are used as intended
  • Maintain a digital library of grant proposals and agreements

Grants Prospecting (5%)

  • Research grant-making organizations, evaluate prospects, and undertake strategic outreach


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated experience in grant writing, with a proven track record of success
  • Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities in a deadline-driven setting
  • Skilled at establishing and cultivating strong relationships, both across different levels of the organization and externally. Takes initiative and actively seeks to deepen current funder relationships and to forge new ones
  • Skilled in creating powerful, compelling written and oral communications for fundraising. Experience and credibility when presenting materials to external audiences

  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrates common sense, flexibility and teamwork with ability to exercise independent judgment
  • Ability to perform duties under general supervision and established guidelines

  • Ability to take ownership of and act independently on assigned tasks.  Refers difficult questions and unusual situations to Supervisor

  • Ability to organize and coordinate diverse activities with many variables, set realistic deadlines and manage a calendar

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must be a minimum of 21 years of age.  Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree plus 2-3 years demonstrated experience or equivalent in related field.  All candidates must successfully pass a Federal Background check before hire.  Successful candidates must demonstrate a deep commitment and passion for the mission, vision, and values of Outdoor Outreach.

This job operates in an open office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copier, filing cabinets and fax machines.
